So i've got two friends who got underage possession/consumption hit on them this past weekend. Neither of them have ever been in trouble before in their lives. The maximum penalty is 6 months jail and up to a 1000 dollar fine. I was just wondering what to expect exactly, because of their clean record, im sure they wont get hit with the max sentence at all, or if any jail sentence at all since they are in college. Both have no clue on what to expect. Anybody with any knowledgeable input (say you have been, or you know somebody who has been) would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

i knew a guy that was in my english 101 class last semester and he was charged with possession and contributing to a minor or something like that, and he was in college and he spent about a week in jail and then got bail. it was very strange. personally i don't know much about this, wish i could help more.
Call the court and ask. If they're underage, they should have the option to take a class/pay a fine and they won't have a record or anything.

My brother was hit with the same thing, except he isnt in college. He had to pay the fine and spend a few months in rehab.

see, columbus ohio sucks real hard and got rid of their diversion program which pretty much does this. If we were here in athens ohio, they each would have gotten a 250 dollar fine and a diversion program in which they complete some course, and not get in trouble for one year, the charges are dropped.
Burn down the courthouse and pretend like it never happened.
Seriously though: find a local lawyer and ask for a free consultation session. They will outline some options including your pleas and possible diversion programs (surely they have one or some form of one????)

No diversion programs at all. Both people didn't qualify for free consultation from the public defender from there, but luckily here at ohio university where we go to school we pay 8 dollars per quarter apart of our student fees, which pays for free consultation here at campus.
I'm just looking for any and all options because one of the persons is my girlfriend of 4 years, and the other is my room mate. none of us have been in trouble ever and are just completely clueless about how it all works. i know how things go on here at my school when you get arrested, but we were at another school, in another county. what i dont get is how when at there araignment hearing, some kid plead guilty to drug abuse and dwi, and only got a 150 dollar fine, because its only a minor misdemeanor. underage consumption is a first degree misdemeanor.
