They've made questionable acquisitions, and seem to promote some of their lesser bands bands while ignoring the best ones (like the Rx Bandits), but I would never call them shady, or the worst label around.

It seems that Drive Thru started as a label with the best of intentions, but lately it does seem like they are going downhill. There is very little doubt in my mind that Drive thru, when that deal was made with MCA directly contributed to the Movielife breaking up. I like alot of Drive Thru bands, but as a label, Im up in the air as to what I think of them.

The only reason you're saying all this is because you get a boner from telling people that you were a TSL fan right from the start, and you hope to god that they just might be impressed. Also, how can you say that the EP was faster than the full length? Both Leaving and Saddest Girl Story were at a faster tempo on the full length. Three's A Charm wasn't exactly a fast song either.

You say that you aren't hating, yet you refer to their CD as an "overproduced piece of shit full length."

If the EP is such a treasure to you, maybe you could be an actual fan of the band and not tear down their full length, because you seem to be the only person doing so.

Good Charlotte- 2 albums. Both sound exactly the same. They were poppy since the beginning. Haven't changed in the slightest.

As for the Movielife, my personal hypothesis is that they broke up because Geffen Records was trying to advertise them and make them all mainstream. Meanwhile, they want to stay underground. After all, Geffen HAS been advertising all of the non-Geffen DTR bands, something MCA never did.

in my opinion the real problem with drive thru is that they've bred such a generic (not to say i don't enjoy it) brand of pop-punk that the bands who stray from that mold (Steel Train, Rx Bandits) get criticized for playing a different style... not cool.I don't get it when people say that Drive-Thru bands are all the same. Sure they all fit pretty snugly in the "pop-punk" style, but within that there is some diversity.

Take New Found Glory, The Starting Line, Home Grown, Allister. They're what I tend to think of as the basic "Pop-punk" bands. But even then, you have The Starting Line with very poetic and serious lyrics with lots of crunchy guitar sound effects in the background. Home Grown has this really distinct guitar sound that I don't quite know how to describe. It's especially noticeable during guitar solos. It almost makes me think western or something. Their lyrics tend to be serious, but somewhat bitter. Then Allister has lyrics that vary between sincere and silly, and that FAST drumming is really unique. NFG is NFG, no explanation neccessary.

Then you have bands like The Early November, Something Corporate, Finch, Senses Fail. These bands are more bittersweet and melancholy. They tend to be poetic and reminiscent. Some might call them "emo", but obviously that's wrong. Something Corporate tends to have a few poppier moments than the others in this group, but for the most part fit nicely. Finch is obviously different because of their intense instrumentalization and screaming. Some people might snicker that I'm putting Senses Fail with "bittersweet" or "poetic" bands, but I think they belong.

The Movielife was kind of pop-punk at heart, but with really intense instruments.

Rx Bandits are obviously very unique, as is Steel Train.

So even within these trends that are blatant enough for a non-expert like ME to pick up on, there is more diversity from band to band.

I know a bunch of you are probably about to flame me for "labelling", but please save your energy. I'm just trying to pick up on trends within Drive-Thru for the sake of telling whether or not all of the bands are really "all the same".
