Rufio.
I would not consider them very punk. Pop-punk, but not punk. That's just me.

...plus, he said melodic and catchy.
melodic and catchy does not always mesh with punk very well.

That's a pretty ignorant statement.

He said EARLY Saves The Day/Sefler era. The early STD material could easily be considered melodic punk, more so than their more recent stuff.
Can't Slow Down, their first album, was a complete Lifetime rip-off. It's my favorite album by them still, but it is what it is, and that's closer to punk than Rufio is.
But I would agree, some of Rufio's stuff could almost be considered punk. I don't know though. I'm going back & forth in my head hahaha.
I consider melodic punk to be along the lines of Strike Anywhere, Lifetime, Rise Against, etc.

Have you even listened to a lot of the bands mentioned in this thread? The Ergs, Lifetime, Teenage Bottlerocket, the fucking Descendents...they've all produced some melodic, catchy ass punk rock.

I consider NOFX punk.
I consider NOFX melodic and catchy.
Same with Anti-Flag.
He said punk. he didn't say street punk or hardcore punk. Neither of those would really be melodic or catchy, but just saying "punk...along the lines of Saves The Day", then that opens the doors to more bands than specifying "street punk" or "hardcore punk" or "skate punk", etc.

Comfort of Home was a bit more pop-punk, but Perhaps, I Suppose and MCMLXXXV were in my mind, more punk sounding than Rise Against.

I agree. While Background isn't terribly melodic, atleast to me (my least favorite Lifetime album), their new self-titled album is very melodic and catchy ("I hope you're in your car right now turning this shit up so loud"), but I certainly still consider it a punk album.

Perhaps, I Suppose, maybe. MCMLXXXV more punk than The Unraveling? I'm not sure about that. RA's first album are veyr punk (hey, they were released on Fay Wreck). While their most recent albums may not be as "punk" as early Rufio, their first 2 album, in my opinion, top anything Rufio has ever put out in the "punk" category.

Heh, fair enough. I read you're other post as saying that the two can never coalesce successfully, and I'm still going to have to say that more often than not the results are pretty pleasing to my ears. Whatever, it's a moo point... am I right or am I right?

Agreed. I've actually never listened to Background, so I guess that's -10 Dan Yemin points for me.
And to the thread's creator: listen to Dillinger Four.
