View Full Version : Sperm Donations?

Everyday at lunch time it never fails that something crude and "immoral" is spoken about. Today my friends and I were talking about how to make money quick. (Someone needs money for one of our trips to Europe this year)
It started with a variety of ridiculous schemes such as robbing a bank (which one of our friends manages), to going to shows creating fake charities, to robbing jewlery at birthday parties, buying alcohol and tobacco to sell to lower classmen, all the way to selling DNA for money.
I can find things wrong with fake charities, robbing a bank and jewlery, selling alcohol and tobacco, but selling my sperm while in my gut seems morally incorrect, I'm not sure if I've actually deduced that from logic or from some societal values forced upon me.
I can understand the whole "YOU WILL HAVE KIDS EVERYWHERE THAT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR!" deal, but that doesn't really phase me. I'm sure some gay couple somewhere will raise them right and it is simply just DNA it is not actually my raised child. Biologically and atheistically speaking I think sperm donation is a wonderful thing. The natural goal of every living organism is to reproduce. Whats better than passing your DNA onto millions of possible mate candidates?
Selling sperm is fine and all, but you'd have to make sure somebody actually wants it first.

I'd rob the bank.

Don't see the problem at all.
One thing for sure is make damn sure that they aren't allowed to track you down later in life. As in they don't take your name or whatever because if they can then fuck that shit.
True. We took that into account, we heard they sign a waiver or some shit. That's in the states at least.
We don't really plan on doing any of these things its just fun to discuss how to pull that shit off. Well at least I don't think I would I can't speak on behalf of everyone.
I still just would like to know the moral implications.
They are your biological kids but they will have suitable foster parents, so if its their well being at stake then I'm not too worried. What is so bad about it?
There was a story a while back out of Sweden where a pair of lesbians successfully sued their donor for child support. That poor guy now gets to spend the rest of his life with a garnished salary to support a couple of ingrates.
Not worth it.
go for it. but in 25 years when you're checking out girls walking down the street, you'll never really know if it's your daughter or not.

I'm sure that the law was changed recently here in the uk so that children of sperm donors will now be able to track down their biological father when they reach 18.

That would actually be a problem though. Some news station did an article on that. You could have kids of your very own, and those little sperm you donated will grow up. They were talking about the chances of the two ever meeting, and even marrying for that fact. Sure, the chances of that happening are ridiculous, but you never know. The thought of that creeps me out.

Like you said, it's a natural goal to spread one's DNA and there shouldn't really be anything in your gut or instinct telling you it's wrong. If anything, your 'instinct' from an evolutionary standpoint should encourage the idea.

My health teacher brought up a good point about this that if a guy donates his sperm to the same bank multiple times, you could find out later in life that the person you married is actually your half sister or brother.
I never really had an opinion on it, I still don't really care, but he brought up a good part.
