View Full Version : Anyone Watch the Democratic Debate last night?

Anyone see it? I thought it was the most interesting, and most combative debate yet. The pressure was on Obama both by the media and his supporters to take Clinton down a few pegs considering her dominating leads in virtually all the polls. I thought Clinton started out strong and confident while being attacked by Obama, Edwards, and Dodd. She seemed like a commander in chief. But she had a few slip ups, one on a question involving making her first lady archives open to the public. Obama jumped on that. Another involving the NY Governor's plan to give licenses to illegal aliens. She contradicted herself in her answer, and seemed to be murky in where her stance was. Edwards and Obama played on that. However, I must say Clinton and Obama are in dead water if they are for this policy. This will be the GOP Christmas gift for the general election. Moderates and even some liberals will not tolerate illegals being eligible for a license. Dodd was right, it's a privilege. Biden also had a few shining gems. He said all Giuiliani's sentences ontain a noun, verb, and 9/11 - getting a huge applause. He also demonstrated that being commander in chief is nothing to take likely, and outlined serious foreign policy issues and why he was the best candidate to handle them. The debate ended weird with Kucinich admitting he saw a UFO and the moderators than asking Obama if life existed on other planets.
What are your thoughts? Who do you think won?
I thought it was a toss up between Biden and Edwards with a decent showing for Obama. This was Clinton's most troubling debate though she was solid for most of it,
Damn, wish I had seen it. You gave a good run-down though. The life on other planets question is weird as hell, though. What were the answers?

It was only asked to Obama, and he basically said he only cared about life on this planet.

Joe Biden should definitely be appointed Secretary of State if a democrat wins the presidential election...

that UFO question was ridiculous...sadly, that's the only thing that really grabbed my attention

In an objective assessment, Edwards won the debate. I liked Kucinich's responses the most, however. It is saddening that candidate's can speak about god, but UFO's are immediately dismissed as improbable. It is becoming increasingly evident to many that Hillary is a right-wing hawk, and I think candidates should take advantage of this, as she is going to turn away the base. Further, someone should go farther in the criticism and state that Hillary will do to social security what her husband did to welfare-eviscerate it beyond all recognition.

Edward's trial lawyer skills were out in full force last night. I thought he performed very well. I thought he did a good job drawing a line between himself and hillary. He caught her in a contriction that she couldnt seem to talk her way out of. Also, I applaud the Dems for attacking Hillary on her irresponsible vote on the Lieberman Iran legislation.
Obama did well although still do not think his debate skills are up to par.

I don't know how I feel about Edwards' performance last night. I enjoyed watching him rip Hillary to shreds routinely, I wish he would've answered a few of questions, instead of constantly just seeking to bring her down a notch.
Clinton was weak, started out the night looking good, but left a bit battered, no one came with any low punches, just called her out on her great record. It scares me that this woman is leading the polls.
Obama isn't much of a debater, though he didn't hurt himself.
Thought Biden and Kucinich were hands-down the stars of the evening, but sadly it will end up a footnote.
