Is it possible to steal something from yourself. ie Use the same thing that you've used before in a different song/poem.

yes. and you shouldn't do it unless there is a bloody good reason for it. ie. coheed and cambria have done it, because its a concept story and it refers back to its self at times. give us an example of what youre thinking of.

How do you steal something from yourself? Using a line or two from something old in something new is not theft. It's the modernization of an older idea. Obviously if something you wrote before is that good to you and you decide to use it again, then it's fine, but don't overdo it with multiple stanzas from other pieces.

well it all depends on if you want to spend the money to sue yourself.

Lew doesn't know what he's talking about. See the ACOP/Immortal thread.

Thetrueblood is right. Unless you plan on suing yourself you'll be fine.

oh that is so hurtful. no seriously. actually, i was joking.

no, don't write original lyrics. according to wellhello, talent doesn't count for anything. just keep churning out the same old shit. as long as it makes money, it doesn't matter.

okay in this case you are flat out wrong because opinions don't matter here, at all. He's talking about US Copyright Laws. Something you know nothing about. Who the hell do you think is going to sue him? You really think someone is going to sit their and think "Hey! He reused his own lyrics, I'm going to sue that fucker!" Yeah that's not going to happen. It wouldn't even get to court.

he didn't specifically mention laws, so i answered his query from an artistic perspective.

then again the law is still slightly opinionated, thats why we have a judge and a jury.

the law is not opinionated. it is stated directly yet some people try to interpret it differently. we have judge's to determine what the law actually says if there is any confusion. Also, there isn't a jury in civil legal matters.

yes, the law is written but there can be confusion. and special cases. sentencing is partially opinionated

Hey why don't you sue Paramore??? I know she's said 'I can feel the pressure' in more than 1 song.
