Xbox Live help

Yeah so I bought a 360 for my dorm room at college cause I'm bored out of my mind and wanna get set up on Live. Of course my internet connection fails, cause I have the worst luck possible. It keeps giving me the error "MTU connection failed" or whatever. So, what the hell can I do? I looked around all over the net for something to do for my situation but nothing has helped, and I'm not a good technical person. Plus I can't access the cable modem and what not cause I'm on a college network.

If anyone can help me get past this problem in any way I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm sure someone has come across this before around here.

the wireless adapter is pretty clutch, i have one for mine (even though my damn subscription ran out.)

I got it to work thank god. I had to register my Mac address on my college network.
