im interested in buying a midi keyboard to use with garageband to kinda just mess around and try and make some music for fun. i have no experience in any of this so i was wondering if anyone could reccomend a good keyboard for a beginner like me. so far im eyeing the M-Audio Keystation 49e.

Try to find one and play it before you get one; I don't like the way the keys on the keystation felt at all.
To me it seems like people are pretty much 50/50 on that keyboard as far as the feel of the keys goes. It does have a lot of nice features though.

i have a radium 49, which is the predecessor of the keystation. it's pretty sweet ,and i spent about 179 on it at the time. A friend of mine has an Axiom, and he swears by it. it has some nice pads built in, too. What kind of music are you planning to make??
I don't know Garageband very well, but if it has vst hosting capabilities, you can download tons of free plugins that get you some cool sounds.
good luck!!

not really sure what kind of music yet. im gonna have a friend teach me basic piano stuff so i know what keys play what notes and stuff. ill prolly just make some hip-hop beats and electronica crap and if it sounds good ill have someone add vocals to it.

Take a look at the Edirol PCR-800 (61 key version, but it comes in a 49 key version). It has really nice feeling synth-action keys, and all the same features of the Axiom and then some. It is a step up in price, although you can find some good deals online and on ebay. I've been looking at them for a while and my girlfriend just got me one for my birthday. Really nice feeling button, sliders and knobs, along with sixteen velocity pads. The pads are smaller than those on the Axiom, but they're still nice. I can't wait to try it out, but my laptop is down for the count right now.
I just hated the semi-weighted feel of the Axiom; it made it feel like a toy piano to me. But again, some people like the feel, so make sure you try some out.

Dude go get a yamaha PSR-340 its an excellent keyboard i have one it has lots of instruments and sound effects and if you have the right program on your pc you can save songs onto a floppydisk for it to play on the keyboard its a great keyboard check into getting one.
