I think it would be hysterical if he signed with like the Royals or the Devil Rays. It would be the most amazing thing ever.

well his first choice was the red sox last time, and he was even willing to take a pay cut to play for them

What? He opts out from the team with the highest payroll and lists the team with the 2nd highest payroll and amount of expendable funds who's SS was terrible for half the year last season?
I'm shocked, SHOCKED I say.
His No. 1 on his list is whoever offers him the most money. And I would love for it to be Detroit, but that's not happening.

I don't believe this. Either way it won't happen. But if for some reason in the .5% chance that it does, baseball will be ruined.

interesting, I don't care either way. I mean, it would be fun to rub it in my Yankee friends faces, but I'd rather keep Lowell.

Wahhhhhhhh. Teams spending under $25 million "kill" baseball just as much.

That would be a cunt move, but I don't see it happening. It would make it look like he couldn't hack it in New York, that he had to jump sides to get it done, and it seems like he's too much about his "legacy" to do something like that, but who knows. I guess if the price is right...

i dont see how it would make it look like he couldnt hack it in new york...he did just fine
it was that abortion of a pitching staff that couldnt hack it

they trade sides all the time. johnny damon? roger clemens? a bunch more..
Yanks fans and BoSox fans are a whole lot more loyal to their teams than most of the players are.

Yanks fans and BoSox fans are a whole lot more loyal to their teams than most of the players are.that really doesn't have anything to do with the point that i was trying to make... damon switched over after helping the sox to one of their biggest years ever, whereas, like i said, a rod would be switching over after being pretty useless as a new york postseason hitter. i mean his biggest october memory as a yankee is slapping arroyo's glove. and turning down $90 mil in order to jump the other side, who has just won a championship, isn't really something to respect. you'd figure that he'd get a cleaner slate with the media, despite whatever struggles they want to pin on him, by stepping out of the rivalry.
at the same time, he probably wants to stick it to everyone that booed him, so who knows.

i think lowell would stay at 3rd and ARod would replace the misery known as Julio Lugo at shortstop

I really don't understand this "rivalry" of NY and Boston when the players are constantly jumping back and forth between the teams... it seems like they have such a little amount of team loyalty against their supposed rival apponents.
bigmike
11/05/07, 01:25 PM
If he were to go to the Red Sox it would have nothing to do with "changing sides", "not hacking it in NY", or wanting to "get back at those fans that booed him." It'll be 100% about the money. How are people not understanding that? You employ Scott Boras to fill your pockets with cash, that's it.

I'd rather the Sox resign Lowell and trade away Lugo for someone, maybe Tejada. But if they did sign him, what a nasty lineup:
1. Pedroia
2. Youk
3. Papi
4. Arod
5. Manny
6. Lowell
7. Drew
8. Variteck
9. Ellsbury

I am a Royals fan, that would be incredible. Considering thier entire payroll is somewhere in the realm of like $40 mil, there is no chance of that ever happening. Plus, Alex Gordon is the future. Not only of the Royals organization, but of the MLB.

The rivalry between players was much bigger back in the day when players were on the same teams for a whole career. Now its much more about the fan base....This isn't the topic though.
I can see the Sox making a run at A-rod if they can trade Manny. I feel bad for theo because a lot of the players seem to be lobbying for Lowell's return and a lot of them want this team intact. As a gm this is unfair because his has to make the objective decision of whats best for the team and now having to worry about what is publicly being said by the players or their feelings....however thats a tough thing to do when the players have a huge presence amongst the fan base and national sports media.
I hate A-rod, but I would love that guy on my team.

i agree .. theres no way this happens.
in fact i dont see either a-rod or lowell on this team next year. i think this that this winter is going to be heavy w/ trades due to the weak FA market and Theo will be right in the middle of it looking for a long-term solution at 3B and another arm for the rotation as insurance.

Yup, resign Lowell and trade away Lugo have ARod at SS. I really do hope they resign Lowell, cause all he does is hit doubles and drive in runs. Not to mention, he is a very good 3rd baseman.

Whether I'm some 21-year-old kid on the internet with a god complex or your next door neighbor, I'm exactly the same. You suck at life, generally cannot comprehend anything baseball related and then attempt to point out things about yourself because you feel the need to defend yourself after you made a stupid exaggeration about a team and organization that is just plain better then your favorite team.

hahahah what a pussy. I dont know, really Im not surprised because their is a spot for him but to just jump from the Yankees to the Sox like that after not being able to handle the pressure of playing in New York. Its a cop out for him to just want to jump to Boston, he should go to LA, where most people seem to want him to go.

A-rod vs Cabrera.....who wins? In terms of age, contract, value, what it would take to acquire each
I am on the fence about this one.
LeftWideOpen
11/08/07, 09:52 AM
cabrera would like require jacoby and/or buchholz. not to mention up and comers like masterson. count me out, unless (for some reason) they took a package of masterson, coco, hansen and someone like josh reddick (whose stock is hot at the moment) or jason place.

11/08/07, 02:03 PM
But the question is between A-rod and Cabrera. A-rod will cost any team 25 mil at least for the next 5-6 years if not more money than that. For any team going after Cabrera an extension will probably cost them Manny money (20 million) for the next few years. Cabrera has issues including his defense, but to me, if Ellsbury, Lester, and Masteson get it done I would be very, very interested. Cabrera can lose the weight, he can't lose the talent.
But the question becomes of his defense and whether or not its worth signing Rodriguez to a big contract and saving the prospies.....for any team.
A surprise team said to be interested is the Marlins? Maybe someone should tell them that they've already got someone better.
I hate the yankees, but of all their players, I like a-rod the most. So I'd be just fine with this.

you hate the yankees because.....?
because every year they try to put the BEST possible team on the field not only for the paying fans but in the hope that they'll reach their 27th world series championship, putting them at the most championships in all of professional sports?

no - i just can't stand it when people say they hate something/someone but never state a reason as to why that is. especially when it comes to the boston/new york rivalry.

the yankees do just as much to sabotage baseball with a ridiculous payroll as the (formerly devil) rays do with the equivalent of a-rod's salary in one year.
though i think this argument is made daily.
no - i just can't stand it when people say they hate something/someone but never state a reason as to why that is. especially when it comes to the boston/new york rivalry.
Excuse me, let me clarify. I hate the Yankees because I am a Red Sox fan. The end.
And plus, when did it become necessary to have a reason to hate the rival to your team? I thought that was just common sense in sports.
1. Steinbrenner is a tool
2. Any team that treats a manager with Torre's trackrecord that way deserves to be hated
3. The fans
All of those would have also been acceptable reasons. But being a Sox fan trumps them all, I think.
