If you go on wikipedia and type in "____(year) in music" you get all sorts of information about music-related events that year.

Yesturday I got bored and looked up from 2000 on. I noticed something that really hurts me. from 2005 on, every year since has had skyrocketing amounts of band break ups, most of which big nam and influential bands.

It sickens me, because I think of all the kids that are going to grow up without seeing a Spitalfield or Get Up Kids show, and are going to look for inspiration in the garbage being pumped out by today's bands. I'm not saying every thing's bad, but most of it is.

is anyone else really bohered by this?

Still countless great bands out there; just not many within the confines of the supposed scene. If you're open to various genres, there's no need to worry.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I always considered Spitalfield to be one of those new-age sort of pop-punk bands.

I can see where you're coming from with the Get Up Kids, as their craft seemed very heartfelt and sincere, as opposed to the indie/pop-punk of the "myspace generation", which basically conveys the "oh my love life is SOOOO dramatic, but check out how hip and fashionable I am, comment plz?" message. It's a terrible, exaggerated cartoon to say the least.

I think younger music fans are going to end up having to either dig into the past or other music genres for authenticity.

agreed. look at the number of kids nowadays that are listening to music released in the 60's/70's. music's kinda like the circle of life. people form a band, band makes great music, band splits up, new people influenced by this broken up band form a band of their own, make music, eventually split up, etc. yea it's a shame, but it's kinda inevitable.

i think if a band is truly good, it's music will last through the years

Yeah Im a "younger" fan and I've pretty much given up on modern music. I listen to Dream Theater and a few other bands that are still making music. Everything else is Dire Straits, Queen, Bowie etc.

No matter what the era great music will always be great music

I'm sorry you're listening to Dream Theater.
Talented... but so sad

*personal opinion!*

I disagree. I think if anything, the "myspace generation" pop punk is a departure from drama and is a lot more about feeling young, being alive, and having fun.

If kids are really that desperate for music they wont mind reading up on the history and discovering some pretty amazing stuff. Who knows, maybe things will change for today's music and the future will outdo the past.

There's way more great bands coming out than there are breaking up. You most likely won't hear about them on this website though.

Bands break up too much
:[
I went to see a Sullivan show Friday...and they broke up before the show started.
