You see these things on the news and in the papers, but somehow you know your hometown can never be subject to something so awful.
So far nine innocent lives were taken, five more are in jeopardy and so many families not knowing the fate of their loved ones.
I'm so glad my friends came out alive, I'm so happy to be surrounded by even my broken family.
These are the things you see in nightmares, but this time there's no waking up.

Any other Omahaians or fellow Nebraskans with thoughts on the matter?

Not I, but I'm sorry to hear about it nonetheless. It's always hard when something like that happens, whether it be a school shooting or the death of a student in a car accident. It just puts everything in perspective, kind of brings everyone back to reality.

To anyone involved, I feel for you.

wow...i can't believe this happened...this is so reminds me of the VT shootings...that really hit close to home..its so hard to image that you can't even walk into a mall and go shopping anymore. horrible..my thoughts and prayers..we can only hope things like this don't happen, people who are down on life need better ways of helping themselves other than going out and killing people along with themselves, what a despicable way to go...

Yet another piece of shit loser decides to murder innocent people as opposed to just killing himself first.

its been so rough for everyone around me. i have no remorse or respect for some coward who decides to take the back door out, dragging as many innocent people with him as he can. a friend of mine said he wished the sick son of a bitch had lived a few minutes longer so he could feel the pain he had inflicted on every last person, but the truth is someone who can murder that easily and in that fashion has proved they can't feel pain, remorse and is too damn ignorant to realize that people are capable of feeling the same way.

8 innocent people died, the ninth was the shooter who lost all forms of innocence the minute he decided he needed to take others with him.

I live in Council Bluffs and since I'm in Omaha every day I was really in shock. It really didn't seem like this would happen here. At this point all you can do is hope, pray or whatever it is you can do for those effected by it.

I really hope they don't read his suicide note, stop showing his picture and never, ever let him get the attention he craved.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

"He basically said how sorry he was for everything," Maruca Kovac said of the note. "He didn't want to be a burden to people and that he was a piece of s--- all of his life and that now he'd be famous."

One of the best ways to not be a burden to people is to not shoot them.

And no, he won't be famous. Sadly this stuff happens so much nowadays, I don't even remember the name of that Virginia Tech kid, and the Columbine ones I can't recall much about either.

i'm sure just wanting to die and not be a burden any longer includes killing innocent people.
i have no sympathy or remorse for this son of a bitch.

No, sadly he will be famous because of how the media wants to know everything about him and will discuss him more than the victims, no matter how many times they say they wont. He knew how it would be treated with the society we live in today, and he was right. Which is sad.
