View Full Version : I can really tell the strike is taking a toll now

Tonight, another of my shows (ER) entered into hiatus :-( which leaves me with two of my 5 Thursday shows left, and i think My Name Is Earl only has one more...
2 of my mondays are on hiatus and i think this week's How I Met Your Mother might be the last
This upcoming week could be the last Pushing Daisies, and Kid Nation is ending which would leave me with just Dirty Sexy Money. Dex is almost over, but I already watched the last two leaked episodes to fill my void...
So after next week I will only have 2 shows left to watch, that makes me so sad

Oh wow, this is really helpful for all the shows anyone is wondering about:

Yea, the strike definitely blows. Considering I'm a TV addict (I watch Chuck, Heroes, Weeds, Californication, Pushing Daisies, Dirty Sexy Money, Lost, Scrubs, The Office, Big Shot, Friday Night Lights, Entourage, and The Wire to name most of the shows I watch regularly), watching my favorite shows slowly stop airing new episodes has royally sucked ass.

usually shows go on a hiatus around this time anyways. hopefully they can resolve this soon

im getting nervous about Lost more than anything though; i don't know if i can handle just seeing 8 episodes of, what is already being called, the best season.

i'm thankful to have any lost at all.

This shit needs to get resolved soon.
A lot of shows could suffer permanent damage at this point if they aren't able to finish the second half of this season.

Catch up on some other shit. I'm running through the wire before the last season starts next month.
That's what I'm doing. I just bought Bones season 2, checking out what has aired of season 3 as well, and also plan on checking out Dexter. The strike isn't that big a deal to me, I'd only have missed Lost and 24.

300th episode last night.
It's a show that will never die because the changing of characters in the hospital is inevitable so the story can always continue.

When does the strike need to be over for Lost to continue with its 16 run season?
Like by February?

March or April. Starting in Feb + 8 episodes = 2 months = April will need new ones

also a good point, but the sad thing about these hiatuses is there is no definite return date yet

yup, season 14 or something. last night was episode 300 and it was pretty good. Though in the last 3 or 4 seasons it has been very up and down. There has been too much over the top stuff, but half the time it's still a really quality show

If after this long a break, LOST has only 8 episodes to air, then I think the show really may suffer in the ratings, long-term. People are losing interest.

Is it worth checking out (ER)? They have the first seven seasons at my library, and I was trying to do Gilmore Girls, but i'm tiring of it.

Rumors have been going around that this is acually the last one, they were going to have alot of old cast members come back and do guest spots. But with the strike I think they might end up with another season if they can't do all the guest spots this season

Grab the first season for sure and give it a try. I've always loved ER, and the first half of the series is just perfect television. Amazing cast, great storylines, and a very genuine show. I highly suggest giving it a try

The ER previews/commercials always look so good but I never catch them. I think the last season I really watched was either the finale where the helicopter fell on Dr. (shoot, I can't even remember) or when Mehki Pfeiffer cut that guy off on the highway and there were shots fired.
All my new favorite shows will be off the air by winter break. This sucks. :-(

and I have hated recent season finales, they always try to go over the top. The last season was actually a really good season, but when it got to the finale i just shook my head because they just tried way too hard and it just was terrible

I love Linda Cardellini, but she's not on 'til the 10th season. But we'll see. I was looking at Wikipedia, I can't believe Maura Tierney has been on the show that long.

It's early seasons were excellent. I haven't watched lately, but it used to be fantastic. I do know that it had maybe the single most shocking moment I've ever seen on television, which still freaks me out every time I see the actor who was chiefly involved with the part.
But yeah, it was a damn good show back then. I'd suggest it.

yeah i heard rumors that dr. ross(george clooney) would return for an episode or more and the dr. carter(the greatest tv character outside of jack bauer) would be returning for some as well. im not sure if there is any validity to it but oh well.

season 2 when dr. ross saves the kids from the river is freaking nuts.

let's see... there has been some good and some bad, but a quick overview of the last few...
Luka came back and Abbey was really really happy to see him and was hopeful that she would be able to kick her regrown drinking habit, but when she got home Luka brought his brother with him to see New York. This gave the two of them no time together to talk so Abbey continued drinking, she also started going over to Neela's to drink. Umm... i dunno if you saw that she slept with Moretti one night after a birthday or something for one of the doctors. Moretti's son was having problems staying is school so Moretti left to go visit his son but then called the ER and announced he would be gone indeffinately. The temp that was brought in to do his duties, Skye, was really apprehensive since she didn't know anyone, but she is very experienced. She didn't want to be cheif resident for these reasons, but she had no choice... ummm... Tony now has Sarah living with him again after an incident where she rebelled against her grandparents, went to a party, and some guy wanted to do sexual things with her so she freaked out and called Tony. Tony and the grandparents decided she would be better off at his place. There was alot of other little stuff, but those were the big continuing plot lines

yup, that was what was suppsoed to happen, but with the strike it is iffy. I really hope that they can do the cameos at some point, even if it is next season. I don't want them to end this season crappily because of the strike

Oh well, maybe that would actually convince the motherfuckers to have a season longer than 16 episodes and more frequently than every 8 months.

actually, having it this way ends up being in favor of them since they will be one of the few shows with new episodes in February... If they didn't change to the shorter seasons then they would have had to do what all other shows are doing and either cut the season short or go on hiatus.

No I agree with you that it works out well for this season given the strike, but I still wish we could have 24 episodes per season again. I barely remember what happened in the last season.

What season of ER was it that one of the main characters died of a tumor? That's when I last watched the show consistently, and it seems like that was a long ass time ago.

Yeah as unfortunate as the strike is, I've been keeping up on it and it seems as though it is going to last a while longer. So I've started getting into new shows. This is what I have slated for my Christmas break.

No WGA Waivers for Golden Globes/Oscars (http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/no-wga-waivers-for-golden-globes-oscars/)
So apparently they will not have anyone writing the Globes or Oscars and all WGA members will be picketing outside of the ceremonies.
Also, it is expected that the actors will join them and refuse to cross the picket line. Essentially taking away the entire reason anyone would bother to watch either of those award shows.

Apparently Leno and Letterman are coming back without their writers (it's going to be more interview and music based). I really worry about after the holidays though, when shows would normally return. I'll have The Wire and Lost, plus whatever few episodes are left of the many shows I watch, but after that nothing. I'll definitely be out drinking more since no TV shows will have me wanting to stay home to watch.

Actually, Letterman might be able to go back with WGA members, while Leno and Conan cannot
Letterman is able to do this because his production company, Worldwide Pants, owns both The Late Show and The Late Late Show independently of their network, CBS. While this deal has not been finalized, the WGA has stated in a letter today that it will begin separate negotiations with various production entities.

the strike will end soon. late-night is the first to come back in January, daytime will follow shortly and then we will see prime be the last to cross the line.
writers are still being paid until the end of January, after that they need money to support themselves and their family. they are fighting against multi-million dollar execs who are still making money. the writers will budge, they have no choice.
