Black Sails, Art of Drowning, Sing the Sorrow

Sing the Sorrow is my current fav for AFI, but my all time fav is probably Black Sails. Scratch that, they're all my favourite. AFI is an awesome band, their music is constantly changing ... in my opinion, they don't fall under a certain genre, they're AFI. They set the stage for punk bands. When I saw them live they played mostly Sing the Sorrow and some Art of Drowing.

Miseria Cantare is f'n awesome live, unbelievable opener for a live show. All of their songs were amazing live, AFI rules.

Oh yeh, while were on the topic of AFI, I heard something about Davey seeing a monster on stage (on Heroine or somethin), then passing out or somethin. I heard it happened at a couple of shows ... anybody else hear this?

... the friend that told me this has been a fan of AFI for almost twice as long as I have, and I've ben a fan for almost 3 years now. He told me this before the concert so I dunno ... messed up.

I just wanted yo know...what happened to Very Proud of Ya? anyways... AFI is my favorite band they are so amazingly great!

About Davey's "monster" on stage i saw an interveiw a while ago where Davey says the monster is something that sorta creeps up on hiom because of the energy and passion that he has when he sings. He also went on to say that often, when he is in the studio he takes a peice of cloth in with him to sorta put in energy into (like twisting and pulling on it).

1. No, I do not actually know the person that runs davey-havok.net, fortunately, and this is one thing that I agree with you on.

2. I know his first name isn't Davey, and I know that his last name isn't Havok. I'm not a fucking moron, I listen to AFI as much as the next guy.

3. Why would I post that? So I could have confirmation if it was true or not. Who knows, maybe somebody else had heard the same thing? The thing about the monster is true (see above post), the drug thing obviously isn't, maybe somebody got their story wrong. Obviously it came as a bit of a shock to me to hear this, considering I knew before that Davey was straight-edge. Just because I post it doesn't mean that I believe it. It wasn't a statement, a question.

Black Sails In The Sunset. I love that album so friggin much. & Sing The Sorrow comes 2nd, although its different from the rest of the AFI albums......but then again, none of their albums sound the same

If I did, I was defending them when people were attacking their integrity, calling them sell-outs etc. I believe that they uphold some "punk" ideals, i.e not changing their music to appeal to a larger audience (fuck you I know Sing the Sorrow is huge but they never changed their sound), however I would never classify them as a punk rock band.

Yea their sound has changed no doubt, but it has evolved in a natural progression, rather than forced to change to make MTV happy. get my drift?

Sing the Sorrow is more complex than AOD, just as AOD was more complex than Black Sails, and so on and so forth. AFI has done basically everything they could playing fast and loud, and their latest album was slower, more melodic, and much more complicated. It's like comparing a Van Halen solo to a Jimmy Page solo. Van Halen plays everything at unbelievable speed, but after a time it all blends together and sounds the same, where as Page slows it down, so you can actually hear each individual note, and what you get is pure beauty. I think the same of STS, as it is slower, yet much more complex and creative. I think the album is just part of the bands evolution as artists, and if their sound on this album happens to appeal to a larger audience, then so be it. But please don't try to tell me they changed their sound to sell albums.

i heard sumthin similar to this...he sees monsters an they try an get him or sumthin :s it kinda weird

i watched edward scissorhands the other day, johnny depp in it TOTALLY reminds me of davey...they both oh so hot tho

as for which album..im not sure which one i like better, as of late ive been listening to very proud of ya an awful lot and i hav 2 say i really do like it, but then again i like em all...only one that i aint heard a lot of is shut ur mouth...but ill soon fix that...
