I thought of this as i changed my avatar today to The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan album. The song Masters of War and several other songs on that record are still so very prevalent today its ridiculous. Name some timeless songs of the past and songs today that might be as timeless.

I'd say anything Bob Dylan is timeless. His talent will never get old. I'm only 15 and I own Bob Dylan albums and I love his music.

You guys are both absolutely right with Dylan. Especially when you consider that his songs will continue to be performed by contemporary artists for many many many more years to come...

For me, I would say that Hey Jude by The Beatles is about as timeless as you can get. That song was, is and always will be an amazing piece of music.

Kids will still be listening to Aiden 50 years from now. Knife Blood Nightmare is a true classic.

thank you!

I was so deathly afraid someone was going to take me seriously

on a serious note:

Rolling Stones - Paint it Black and/or Gimme Shelter

no matter what you think of this band and the mockery of rock 'n' roll they're keeping up these days, both of these songs are pretty much immortal.

Kansas - Carry On My Wayward Son
Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven
Journey - Wheel In The Sky (or maybe Faithfully or Open Arms?)
Joan Jett & The Blackhearts - I Love Rock N Roll
Boston - More Than A Feeling/Amanda

Some songs that come to mind.

Going by the Dylan theme, can't really go wrong with Like A Rolling Stone or Blowin' In The Wind.

Born to Run.

One of my all time favorite songs/albums.

Not quite in the same league as most of the other stuff that's been mentioned, but Surrender is somewhat classic.

Definitely.

Continuing with Simon & Garfunkel, The Boxer is without a doubt a timeless song.

Personally, one of my favorite songs of all-time.

Ben E. King - Stand By Me
Van Morrisson - Brown Eyed Girl
Beach Boys - I Get Around

And the most timeless song of all, Happy Birthday.

saysmydoctor

Happy Birthday does have time constraints. It has to be sung on the 24 hours that are your birthday.

A real timless song is "900 Bottles of Beer On The Wall."

i am not trying to be condescending, but why do you think this song might be timeless. i can see most of the songs mentioned in this thread being timeless, but personally i can't see this as one of those. any reason why?
