View Full Version : Fuck my life. Fuck my car.

Alright. I haven't been on since friday because:
A while back I got into a car accident. My parents wouldn't buy me a new one afterward, but they let me drive their cars around to "learn". Well Friday rolls around and my mom thinks I have been driving really well and we decide that it would be a good time to get a new car and to get my life back on the road (pun intended). I got an '08 Kia Optima. About a 20,000 dollar car. I was pretty stoked.
My girlfriend was calling me the entire time. SoI had to rush back from Cherry Hill where I was buying the car all the way to Washington Township back to West Deptford to get her. About an hour drive away. On the way home my boy calls me up and wants to check out my new car and tells me to pick him up, so I do so.
While driving I am pulling around to the same spot I got into an accident before. I was telling him look this is where I got hit before. I pull up to the stop sign start pointing things out. Then I pulled through. All I remember is my friend saying fuck. Some really bright lights filling up the car, spinning around in the air and then I was on some dudes lawn.
My friend and I only were mildly concust. The entire front of the car is gone. A light flew through the window of the dude's house whos lawn I was laying on, needless to say he was more concerned about an upside down car and the people in it.
Fuck.

It was between that a mustang, a focus, an accord or a civic. I like the Mustang and the Optima best, the Mustang would've murdered my insurance though. Guess it doesn't matter now.

Hahah, yeah it seems that way. I'm not really that reckless with my car. I've never thought about driving drunk, I do the standard 5 above the speed limit. And aside from those two freak accidents in the same location, I've never even been close to causing an accident.
I drive in Philadelphia, and Cherry Hill all the time. Which are some of the most difficult places to drive in. This intersection is extremely dangerous. You can't see down the road where the cars are coming and to make things worse there are giant spotlights down both sides so when cars enter the area of the spot light they are engulfed in this light.
Both of my accidents were in the exact same spot the exact same situation. Either I have night vision problems, or this intersection is fucked.
I'm going with the latter. Purely because the paramedic told me that there are about 6 accidents there a week. That's almost one a day. He also informed me that they won't handle the intersection until someone dies there.

Brick's wrestling team sucks. So do you.
Also first accident I was in was established as opposite fault. So not mine. The guy was on perks and did not have his lights on. Plus, it was on said intersection.

Dude I really liked that Optima. Where I'm from not many people drive Kia's. Weird. I see alot of Accords, Civics, Mustangs, Cheaper model Acura's and that's about it.
...you're at a stop sign and you don't see the car coming?
Yeah, this has happened twice at the same location to me.
I looked both way both times too. The cop was telling me its the spot lights down the road that fuck everyone up. Apparently alot of people get into an accident at that intersection. He said something like 6 average per week.
I either have something wrong with my peripheral vision, that intersection was fucked, or I just suck. It could be a combination of all three.
But honestly the chances of getting into the same accident twice? No way. I'm bragging in no way either, but I am not that bad of a driver.

Well luckily my mom is really laid back with big problems, but freaks out over little things. So I am fine with her. She just said, "It's not what happens, but how you handle it." So she made me drive through the intersection the next day a bunch, but then told me never to take this route again.
My step-father is a different story, he is strict and unforgiving. He is currently in Florida and doesn't really know.
My real dad lives in Florida and this doesn't affect him at all so he doesn't care.

I know what you mean. Just honestly I feel alot safer in newer cars. I've seen my friends crash up an old camaro. Air bags didn't deploy and shit. It just wasn't good. I liked this car alot. Despite what alot of kids think (because its a Kia) it was a really nice car. It held up so nicely. Every air bag deployed, the engine drop, the front removed. Everything they said that would happen did. I'm thankful, because not only did it save me but my best friend was in the car and it hit his side. The paramedic said we were lucky we were in a safe car and that I didn't get far enough out for the truck to hit on his door (even so the side curtains deployed).
I don't take any offense at all. So don't worry. I mean obviously I'd love a brand new Mustang or a bmw but that's not possible. It handled nicely had a v6 with some decent pickup, and most importantly again it was a very safe car.

hah check it out. The insurance is covering the costs of both vehicles and my deductible is only 500$, my insurance may spike drastically, but I'll pay for that. So as long as my step-dad doesn't flip shit, I think I'll be driving again in a couple months, and if I am lucky enough to get a car I won't hesitate for a second to buy that car again.

Realistically, no, I will wind up feeling guilty when he asks why we didn't buy the car. I hate lying.

damn. that kia looks nice. i was thinking of the shitty sephia or what ever it's called. wow thats all i have to say. kia has really changed their look
but i know what you mean, safety is more important than how cool of a car you have
i drive soon and i was looking at 3000gts and what not but then i realized that i'd rather have a safe car, so i think im getting an 02 vw jetta. a lot of people say they're chick cars or whatever, but theyre one of the safest cars, and they look good

And yeah the 3000 gts is a really tight car. Jetta's can be hooked up pretty nicely, I like them alot. As long as the car is within the 2000-2008 range I think you would be alright safety-wise, get 'em checked out too, to avoid being ripped off.

yeah definitely. i was in the same position last year, doing extensive research for my first car. i wanted a used jetta really badly for a while. my parents said i could "get any car i wanted as long as i paid half" but we were looking at used cars in the $11,000- $15,000 range. in the end i got an 07 scion tc, brand new! i convinced my dad that it was a really good value, plus he fell in love with it. a year later i still love it and couldn't have made a better decision.

Yeah, honestly if you have the money to be in the 10,000 - 20,000 dollar range a certified pre-owned or a new car is a better idea. It is so much easier for a bank to finance with the warranty and all. You will wind up paying less in the end if you just bought a used car with some crazy fucking payment plan.
I envy you with your ability to retain your car for one year. My whole driving predicament has been horrible since my permit.
When I first went to get my permit someone had entered my S.S. number in wrong when I was a few months old apparently and put that I was born in '93 instead of '90. Horribly wrong. I was legally 14 for 6 months before they could find it. My school found out and stuff and I had to prove who I was and shit. Not to mention it prolonged me getting my liscense for 6 more months. Then two months into my driving I got into my first accident. I was just getting my driving back in line when this happened. I feel pretty hopeless. Everyone tells me not to worry and that the intersection is bad and that my first accident wasn't even my fault, but I am seriously concerned. I think I might take a defensive driving course.

defensive driving is the way to go- you not only become a safer driver, it's also makes you more likely to avoid a crash that isn't your fault. 7 years of driving and i've yet to get in a wreck *knock on wood*

Yeah I mean, my parents are well off, but I am fiscally responsible. I put the down payment on the car myself of 5,000. I was planning on paying the 200 of the 300 dollar monthly payment. I also pay for my own insurance. My parents are firm believers in working for what you own. The laptop I am typing on was 2 grand. I payed for it. The first car I crashed was a hand-me-down from my mom it was brand new, but I payed the remaining balance on it. I don't get too many gimme's trust me.
Just work hard and you can buy what you need. Do not depend on your parents it's a terrible terrible thing.

No, I didn't. My driver's ed teacher was really big on defensive driving, though. A lot of it is luck though, I did some wreckless stuff when I first got my license. A lot of it is just doing what you're supposed to do-- like a car length behind the car in front of you for every ten miles per hour you're driving...while it's not always possible, I've been in the back of pile ups and been the only person able to stop without hitting the car in front of me. Then i drove a motorcycle for a while which made me ultra defensive, like looking both ways right before i go through a green light. Which also made me really aware of what's going on behind me, rather than just in front.

Yeah that's good though. I don't know what came over me to not see that car. I'm convinced that there are other circumstances like the paramedic mentioned.
I'm definitely taking all precautions though. I have an eye doctor's appointment tuesday and I think I am definitely signing up for some defensive driving courses.
Hopefully none of us will ever have to have this conversation again.

i'm really sorry dude. that intersection sounds pretty brutal. taking a defensive driving class couldn't hurt, plus some insurance companies lower your rates for that sort of thing. that is pretty funny that you were 14 for a while though. i also got fucked out of a license for a while, if it makes you feel better. i moved from california to georgia at 16 without a license or permit for that matter and ended up having to have a permit for a year instead of 6 months. i finally got my license at 17, but not being able to drive for that long did not facilitate the friend-making process. i have had a couple mishaps though. about 5 months after i got my license i hit my front fender/headlight on a parking garage column, which blew pretty hard because it was a stupid mistake. then a 16 year old on a cell phone in an F-150 hit me pretty bad (not my fault) but left without a scratch. and then a few months ago i hit my left side view mirror on my garage... ah well, lessons learned. here's to hoping all of your bad driving experiences are done and over with. but just to be sure, wanna move to nyc with me and never have to drive again?

Yeah that's unfortunate I'm sorry to hear all of that.
Hah and yeah that's a possibility my friend and I were talking about just moving to NYC after the wreck actually. We got into our first accidents on the same day as well. He was in the car with me the second time, it was pretty ironic. We both applied to NYU. So who knows, see yah there?
That really sucks, dude. I had some driving issues back when I was 16 and 17 and I (and my dad) was starting to wonder if I'd ever stop getting into accidents so I know exactly how you feel. I've wrecked a car 3 times in total. One was a one-on-one with a curb ($900 in damage), one was when I was cutting through a parking lot and hit a lady in a white car who was passing by a snow drift (very minimal damage to my car, but about $6,000 damage to her car), and one time I cruised through a red light and got t-boned by a S-10. My car was @#$%ed. It didn't get totalled though, unfortunately. That was about $5,000 in damage, I believe (approximately the value of the car at the time). All of the accidents were my fault. After that last one, times were tough for a while. You know what it's like not being able to drive at 16 and 17. That's your life. Things turned around, though, and I've been accident-free ever since (knock on wood). That's not to say there haven't been any (really) close calls since. Just try to minimalize distractions when you're out on the road. Don't point things out to your friend, try to stay off of the phone whenever possible, and don't give to much focus to changing CDs or songs.

Those numbers sound too correct...we all know he makes up everything he says so he'd probably claim he has some real life experience pertaining to the situation.
Sorry to hear about your car though - I'm sure you'll work it out.

Fuck.
... dude that sucks...
what your parents say after the second car got it's ass kicked?

My mom was super cool and understanding. I was dreading telling my step-dad. He isn't a dick he is just subtly and unconsciously vindicative and judging. I told him about an hour ago and he is being very understanding about it. I think they are just both in disbelief that this could've occured again. Seriously, my friend's dad is a statistician and he said the odds of that happening were insane.
I am just trying to be as responsible as I can about it. I am enrolling in defensive driving asap and taking care of all the bills I possibly can.
dude. People like you are the reason why I have to pay so fucking much for insurance still.
I'm a poor college student and don't have much money. I drive a 2000 Buick Century. I hit a deer earlier this year and didn't report it for fear of having to pay more for insurance. So not only do I have a granny car, but it has a nice dent in the front...
I have never got in an accident (other than with the deer) and have never got a ticket...
Supposedly my rates will start to go down once I hit 21. Anyone know if this is true?

I'm sorry you blame me for your insurance.
Yes, your rates will go down. As for being a poor college student... get a job. Or you should've done better in high school I don't know what to tell you.
My older brother is in college with a full ride has a job and owns his own apartment in Gainesville. College is financially stressful, but there is no reason to not be able to overcome your monetary dilemas.

Awesome I am from Township actually. I don't know where you are from. I actually live right off of Hurfville-Crosskeys and friesmill rd. which is one of the most dangerous intersections in Gloucester County. I don't know. Avoiding driving would probably make this worse. I'm just going to take a few classes on driving and hopefully I can avoid this situation again.

Ha! I wasn't really blaming just you...Its a collective problem.
But, I am a full time student, I work 35-40 hours a week and still get a 3.5 GPA in school. The reason I am poor is because I have things to pay for like housing, insurance (health and auto), and other bills.
I'm just thankful that I won't be graduating with any debt.

That's really good, I hope I won't. I think I have enough scholarship money to get through. Does working in college affect you a ton? My older brother, I mentioned earlier, works a solid schedule, but he is seriously like the golden child. I don't know how I will fare.

That's true unless you're a horrible driver, but since you've only hit something once, you have nothing to worry about. But if you buy a sports car, your rate will rise. Anything with a v8 will cost a small fortune from what I understand.

Well, your first mistake was buying a Kia. As far as the wreck, man, that's just really bad luck. Maybe you should consider cycling as a mode for commuting.

Yeah I know about their history, but apparently they have completely redone everything they did about cars in the first place.
I don't know I won't be getting a car for a while, but I'll keep this in mind.
My mum recently got a Yaris and she was driving me to the doctors to get a plantar wart burned out of my foot(yes it hurt like hell and it is hard for me to walk even though i go back to school on the 29th)as she was driving this Kia Rio didn't stop.Lucky me mum turned right. But this lady was to buzy putting makeup on and she wasn't concerned about anything else. Some drivers these days are MAD

I hate when people bag on teens getting brand new cars.
My parents personally got me a brand new car after a childhood friend and current schoolmate died in an accident because of her friends car's airbags.
And by the way, I have USAA, and after my first (and only, knock on wood) accident, they told me that since my parents hadn't filed a claim in 17 years they were not going to increase my rates, which was extremely fournate. So you should have good luck.

Solid, but this is old new.
Better news is my band just dropped our EP. I just posted two threads. Please, give us some feedback.

i drive through that intersection a few times a day. i work on hurfville-crosskeys rd. actually, i decided to check out your profile and i know kyle, the kid you are in a band with.
you just have to really watch because for whatever reason no one follows normal right-of-way "rules" at that intersection, and everyone tries to beat the light because it is short. that intersection needs some definite left turn lanes and arrows. it would help things a lot.

birches. been there over three years. i usually hide in the deli but everyone knows me. and yeah, its a small world.
I dont know about you guys but when I go to buy a car I always choose safety over how "cool" it is. I bought a brand new Toyota Camry in 2006 and after some of the shit I've seen happen to them and how well they held up it was my number one choice.

Despite your choice in Avenged Sevefold sucking:-p your decision with cars is a solid one. I've been driving around a Taurus now practicing and stuff, I get some really severe anxiety doing it though. My heart rate goes out of control I always feel like I am about to smash something/someone. It sucks.

Hah, If it makes your outlook any better they're great acquaintances of mine so Im always a bit bias when it comes to them. I was raised a Chevy girl so I cant comment to much on Ford's however, the Camrys have always had high safety ratings and while I may be a safe driver there are tons of people out there who arent so not only do I have to watch out for myself but for them as well so I needed a car that'd keep me good and alive, Hah.

They arent really much better here in New Orleans. You're still on the younger side though, you've got time to learn. This is true, ugh, which brings me to my next issue. Valentines day. My girlfriend and I both agreed that spending money is a bad idea (my car accidnet = mad funds, she just quit her job). I don't know though I want her to feel special, this apparently is the first year someone wouldn't leave her prior to Valentines.
