Giuliani is more than likely going to drop out soon. Either McCain or Romney will get the nomination. Both are terrible candidates.

What's the appeal for Huckabee? I don't get it...

He's a deeply religious candidate, which gives him more appeal to some conservatives.

I personally find him revolting, and if he's elected, I'll be one of the first to leave the country. He is strongly against gay marriage, and seems to want to add more religion to our government, which is worrisome to me.

Basically, he's a radical right-wing, which the uber conservatives are into (i guess).

No chance at all he wins. His campaign is almost entirely out of funding.

That makes me feel much better. Just the fact that the dude gets press scares most people I know. It forces others to hear his fucked up ideas.

I don't get the McCain appeal.

McCain Is a congressional vet who's been at odds with Bush on several occasions. Some republicans think that will make him more of a challenge to Democrats, because they can't just sit there and say he's just another version of Bush. However, he's really good at pissing off conservatives (people who like the idea of a limited central government) , which make up a good portion of the Republican (crazy war-mongering moralists) base. Note that not every Republican is a conservative, Just as every conservative is not a republican. But there are lots of conservatives in the Republican party.

i'd go with romney or mccain, i'm satisfied with both. i'd probably rather romney, though. he gives me more of a true conservative vibe. i initially liked huckabee, but he's appearing a dead hope, seeing as he is running out of finances. but, in any instant, i'll be pulling whatever republican lever i have to.

Personally I don't see any Republican being a good choice this time around... but for me Huckabee is the worst. As some already stated he is a far-right winger, which is not what this country needs. We need someone as close to the middle of the road as possible. I also know he's the only candidate supporting the FairTax system (which would eliminate all taxes but create a national sales tax of 23%... technically 30%). Outside of the religious conservatives pulling for him other people may be in favor of that system... not that one platform is enough to elect someone.

A LOT of these are Midwestern values. I grew up in SoCal and moved to do school in Iowa and was shocked at how many people really think like this.

i was aiming more at the fact that people always say "oh so and so isn't my president, i'm moving to canada!" but come on..how many of them have.

and if you're leaving america, more power to you. i wish you the best of luck wherever you end up.

Wow, The only thing the republican party can do right is the economy.

Just because the president right now is a republican does not mean that the economy is the republicans fault, Notice that congress in Democratic? There are way to many factors going on in the economy to blame it on the republicans and only the republicans. And most of those factors have to do with the world economy and the housing bubble thats been brewing and don't have to do with the government.

Not really midwestern values, just strong religious values found many places. SoCal is not a big "religious" scene. The Midwest is, the rural areas are, the south is, and especially my area, Southwest Virginia. (Im an hour down the road from liberty, Jerry Falwell's college, enough said)

i wonder how many people here have actually watched the debates. i did not, and would not, vote for huckabee, but he is more than just fair tax and against same sex marriage. like him or not, he is a great speaker and a really funny guy. watch him on the colbert report or any of the debates, he can crack a joke. not that this qualifies him to be a good president (maybe his record as governor does--but i don't know the facts well enough), but he is a good man.

Huckabee is hard to take...listening to him speak in not believable what so ever....btw, with the gay marriage thing, he related gay relationships to bestiality (sp?) the other week. I thought that was a pretty smart thing to do....

i don't know why people would want McCain, he is 71 years old, going to be 72 by the time he is in office. he has always been somewhat of a maverick senator who never really agrees with his party. His stance on abortion has fluctuated a lot also. i wouldn't want a guy who can't even get along with his own party to run our country. also i would not vote for hillary, her tax plan is so ridiculous. My prediction is obama and romney for the final two.

and for the record, the person that called huckabee a radical right-wing, that's an oxymoron. a radical is a self proclaimed liberal extremist, a self proclaimed conservative extremist is a reactionary.

thisismyname
02/01/08, 10:27 PM
^ technically that was person was still correct.

Sure people get lazy now a days and shorten "radical liberal" to just a radical some times, but technically the word can be used either way.

radical - a person who holds or follows strong convictions or extreme principles

Kurt Retenauer

i realize that's what radical means. but in terms of politics, a radical is defined as an extreme leftist, whereas a reactionary is defined as an extreme rightist.

no offense but youre 16, cant vote yet, you have no control over the election at all, and i highly doubt that youre actually going to leave the country if your favorite candidate doesnt win.

id prefer obama or mccain in this election, just as long as hilary clinton doesnt win.
