Chandler: All right, you will notice that I am fully dressed. I, in turn, have noticed that you are not. So in the words of A. A. Milne, "Get out of my chair, dillhole."
Joey: Okay.
[He gets up and takes the cushions with him, as he starts to leave]
Chandler: What are you doing?
Joey: You said I had to give you the chair, you didn't say anything about the cushions.
Chandler: The cushions are the essence of the chair.
Joey: THAT'S RIGHT. I'm taking the ESSENCE.
Chandler: Oh-ho, he'll be back. Oh-ho, there's nobody in the room.

Guilty pleasure? Dude, everyone loves Friends!

I don't own any of the DVDs - mainly because I can catch it on TV on about 4 different channels throughout the week, but I have definitely seen every episode at least once. First 8 seasons, I've definitely seen them all mulptiple times. I'm sure I'll buy the complete series boxset when it stops getting played on TV, but I doubt that'd be for at least a few more years.

see the beauty of the show, in my opinion, is that all 6 characters are pretty essential to its continuation and humor. Sure, everyone has their favorites, but it's hard to imagine what the show would have been like without any of them. Ross and Pheobe seem to be the least liked, but Ross' facial expressions and Pheobe's wierdness are awesome. It's also amazing how all 6 characters had a built up relationship with each of the other 5.

Quoting you from your '05 thread.

True, Ross was generally the least enjoyed male character. But what's funny is lately, within the past year, he's becoming so much more funny and enjoyable to me. Everyone hated him because he was always whiney, but now I think he has some of the best roles on the show. Chandler was always my favorite though, and probably always will be.

Friends is honestly one of the only shows (besides Arrested Development) that I can still laugh out loud at even if I've seen the episode 10 times.

Every single character had their personality strengthen as the seasons passed. Monica became more compulsive, Ross became more annoying, Chandler became more sarcastic, Phoebe became weirder, Rachel became... hotter??

And Joey got dumb. Then even dumber on his spinoff.

Set in Baltimore, this show centers around the city's inner-city drug scene. It starts as mid-level drug dealer, D'Angelo Barksdale beats a murder rap. After a conversation with a judge, Det. James McNulty has been assigned to lead a joint homicide and narcotics team, in order to bring down drug kingpin Avon Barksdale. Avon Barksdale, accompanied by his right-hand man Stringer Bell, enforcer Wee-Bey and many lieutenants (including his own nephew, D'Angelo Barksdale), has to deal with law enforcement, informants in his own camp, and competition with a local rival, Omar, who's been robbing Barksdale's dealers and reselling the drugs. The supervisor of the investigation, Lt. Cedric Daniels, has to deal with his own problems, such as a corrupt bureaucracy, some of his detectives beating suspects, hard-headed but determined Det. McNulty, and a blackmailing deputy. The show depicts the lives of every part of the drug "food chain", from junkies to dealers, and from cops to politicians.

The Wire is the most brilliant show I have ever seen. It follows the drug trade throughout the city of Baltimore from multiple perspectives. Each season has its own theme (1 = the drug game generally, 2 = blue collar workers, 3 = politics, 4 = schools, 5 = media), and it is presented from multiple perspectives. You see how each subculture interacts withing Baltimore and the CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT is just unreal. Its a show in which you really cannot understand the genius until you get at least through a good majority of the first season, but it all of a sudden just hits you. Once you do come to this realization of how deep and intricate the show becomes, it just continues to get smarter as you watch throughout the seasons. The show uses a lot of social analogies, and it also demonstrates how intertwined and corrupt everything is in reality.

If you have the power to get through the first season, you will not regret it (season 1 might even be the best, although Season 4 might be my favorite, and 5 is shaping up incredibly as well).

Friends was still a really good show though. My only complaint is that the quality fell off drastically the last couple seasons. I think they had to have something happen between one of the friends where they get married. When Chandler and Monica got engaged, I think that it helped show the serious side of things also. I don't think that they would have been able to come up with a lot of great episodes if they had kept all the friends single, sooner or later you have to start advancing the plot (not just with Ross and Rachel)

Truth. Some of the best episodes were the ones with guest star love interests. Pretty much everyone had a serious relationship going by the end of the show.

Example: Episode where Ross wears leather pants at his girlfriend's house, or when he whitens his teeth and they turn the black light on. Those were so funny.

They were always going to come up with funny ideas like the person above me mentioned but they become less frequent. But they started to throw in some weird stuff particularly the Ross/Rachel drunken wedding thing.

I don't know off the top of my head, I'll think about it. However, I just remembered another Gunther quote. Ross comes in excited to the coffeeshop because he got tenure, and he has a champagne bottle.

Ross: Gunther, 6 glasses!
Gunther: :uh: You want me to join you?!?

i kept watching but i remember being frustrated with the direction of the show at that time, but after watching re-runs i gotta admit they still had a lot of great jokes and bits even with the added focus on drama towards the end of the series. it's definitely a show i feel a little guilty about loving.

Chandler: Ok, it's um...

Chandler: I have to, okay? It's time...ok, I hate dogs.
Everyone: What? That's crazy!
Joey: Told 'ya.
Chandler: They are needy, they are jumpy, and you can't tell what they are thinking and that scares me a little bit.
Ross: You're right, they are scary...AHHHH! She just ate a treat out of my hand!
Rachel: Wait a minute, do you not like all dogs? I mean, not even puppies?
Chandler: Is there a puppy here?
Tag: You don't like puppies?
Chandler: Ok, you are new!
Joey: Look, Chandler, I told you, never tell anyone about this dog thing. It's like Ross not liking ice cream.
Phoebe: You don't like ice cream?
Ross: It's too cold!
Chandler: Ok, it's just that dogs make me a little uncomfortable.
Ross: It hurts my teeth.
Chandler: Ok, I don't want to say this, I don't want you guys to hate me, but uh, I don't think I can be around that dog anymore, ok? So either the dog goes, or I go.
Everyone looks around, realizing what may be the better option.
Chandler: Oh, come on!

and right after:

Rachel: Can I ask you guys a question? When a guy breaks up with his girlfriend, what is an appropriate time to wait to make a move?
Phoebe: Oh i'd say about a month.
Monica: Really? I'd say...three to four.
Joey: Half hour.
Rachel: Interesting.
Monica: When it's your assistant, I would say never.
Joey: Alright, Rach, the question is, does he like you? Right? Because if he doesn't like you, this is all a moo point.
Rachel: Huh. A moo point?

Some of my favorites (copied from other sites, excuse any awkward spacing):

JOEY: Hey, why can't we use the same toothbrush, but we can use the same soap?
CHANDLER: Because soap is soap. It's self-cleaning.
JOEY: Alright, well next time you take a shower, think about the last thing I wash and the first thing you wash.

Joey: The question, Rachel, is this: does he like you? Otherwise, it's just a moo point.
Rachel:Uh, Joe — a moo point?
Joey: You know, like a cow's opinion. It doesn't matter. It's moo.
Rachel: Have I been living with him too long, or did all that just make sense?

And, can't remember the whole thing, so I'll paraphrase:

Chandler: How is this any different than Ross not liking ice cream?
Phoebe: You don't like ice cream?
Ross: IT'S TOO COLD!...hurts my teeth.

Have you seen the blooper where Joey says, "It's fucking fire!"

Paul Rudd was easily the best addition to this show ever. Love him so much.

Yessss... I think that's in the montage of them swearing. Also, I agree about Paul Rudd. I love his first episode when he did the air piano solo. Amazing.

Rachel (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000098/): Omigod. That's our friend- It's naked Ross!

Chandler: Forget it. I'm not giving up my bachelor pad for some basketball seats.
Rachel: Your bachelor pad?
Monica: Have you even had a girl up here?
Chandler: ...no. But, uh, Joey has, and I usually talk to them in the morningtime!

Can someone explain this joke to me? I have never gotten it:

Chandler: And I love the milk! But I'm not going to ask some British girl to move in with me!
(a beat)
Chandler: Joey you say things now.

Haven't seen that episode in quite some time, but my best guess is that Chandler, immediately after saying what he says, realizes it sounds real dumb, so to take attention away from it, he wants Joey to say something, since he usually says absurd things.

Again, haven't seen the episode in a while, but that makes the most sense to me.

Ross: Gandalf the Wizard. Hello, didn't you read The Lord of the Rings in high school?
(chandler and ross chuckle to each other, joey looks at them a beat before...)
Joey: No I had sex in high school.

This episode is on TBS right now and it's one of my favorites:

Ross: You know how you throw your jacket on a chair at the end of the day?
Joey: Yeah...
Ross: Well, like that, only that instead of a chair it's a pile of garbage. And instead of a jacket it's a pile of garbage. And instead of the end of the day it's the end of time, and garbage is all that has survived.

Joey: Well why don't you take her to your place?
Ross: I tried that, she said it has a weird smell.
Joey: What kind of smell?
Ross: I don't know, SOAP?!?

Chandler (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001612/): The Bings have horrible marriages. They yell. They fight. And they use the pool boy as a pawn in their sexual games.
Ross (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001710/): Chandler, have you ever put on a black cocktail dress and asked me up to your hotel room?
Chandler (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001612/): No.

I just watched these 2 episodes:

Chandler"If I'm gonna be an old, lonely man, I'm gonna need a thing, you know, a hook, like that guy on the subway who eats his own face. So I figure I'll be Crazy Man with a Snake, y’know. Crazy Snake Man. And I'll get more snakes, call them my babies, kids will walk past my place, they will run. "Run away from Crazy Snake Man," they'll shout!"

Chandler What are we gonna do? What are we gonna DO!?
Joey Uh, uh, we'll flip for it, ducks or clowns.
Candler Oh, we're gonna flip for the baby?
Joey You got a better idea?
Chandler All right, call it in the air.
Joey Heads.Chandler Heads it is.
Joey Yess! Whoo!
Chandler We have to assign heads to something!
Joey Right, okay, okay, uhhh, ducks is heads, because ducks...have heads.
Chandler What kinda' scary-ass clowns came to your birthday!?
