I said that in my initial post, please read. But considering the screen adaption, the symbolism still stands no matter how loosely based. I've read the short story, I actually own it.

Your analysis is a stretch in my opinion. Eric Roth did a great job modernizing F. Scott Fitzgerald's tale and making it into a semi-tragic love story. I seriously hope he wins the Golden Globe.

You're correct, this clearly sets up your subsequent ramblings about the short story as opposed to the Roth's shitty screenplay. my apologies.

I guess I meant my other initial post. But whatever. I guess his screenplay was so shitty, it just went and got itself nominated. I still say, even dropping my mythology bit, that your comparison is a stretch.

Regardless of adaptation accuracy or symbolism or anything, I just watched this tonight finally and really enjoyed it. It was an excellent film. Didn't feel like a Fincher movie at all, but still damn good.

listen, this is going to come off patronizing, to say the least, but I want you to know there is zero condescension intended here. The Globes are the most horseshit awards ceremony in the film industry. No one who knows anything about film respects them. So, please don't ever use them as evidence in an argument.

Secondly, if you are saying that Roth's script and Fitzgerald's short have anything in common, you really need to crack that book you own open again.

I can't be the only one that thought this was just ok.

I'm a little late in saying this but yeah, I thought it was just "alright."

I've never read Fitzgerald's version but I can clearly see this movie being a better book. It had too many sub plots and/or story lines to keep my attention. Every sub plot I see it as a different chapter in the book. I enjoyed it for what it was but there is no question it's overrated.

Yeah, ok.

Again, I've said myself it is a very loose adaption. Are you reading posts? You skipped over the biggest portion of my argument to nitpick a technicality I was ultimately right on. I understand he was born a full grown and eventually goes to school with his grandson as he continues to grow younger. The story is less a love story as he gets bored of his wife (and here my memory vagues). The point is that it IS throw to mythology, even loosely, I was still right and this conversation is pretty much over. You are at liberty to think it's a script that picks up from Forrest Gump, whatever, I see it as a stretch, I explained why and that's really all that needs to be said. Fuck.

Hmm, "vague" used as a verb. Interesting.

Not nearly as interesting is how people continue to nitpick over the little things. Seriously? My mistaken usage of a word? Really? Gonna correct my punctuation in this post or something? Grasping at straws.

Once again taking away from your symbolism conversation, I wanted to mention that Cate Blanchett looked incredible in this. I don't find her attractive in this generally, but she looked gorgeous in this.

I always enjoy Cate Blanchett. Elizabeth: The Golden Age was an enjoyable movie.

The lighting and color palette used create a beautiful aura through the entire film.

Your central claim, laid out, oh so eloquently, was that I was straining for comparisons between 2 films written by the same man. I then further laid out even more one to one occurrences that I thought to be extremely close to one another. You conceded similarities, and how instead of one character rejecting the other it was the opposite this time, and then started spouting some nonsense about mythic symbolism in Button. There were no ad hominems thrown at you, and there is nothing wrong with attacking a person's lesser arguments, it goes towards credibility. However, your accusation was that I did nothing but attack ("nitpick") your lesser arguments, when indeed you made no greater one.

great movie

i loved it

damn fine acting by Brad Pitt

the story, characters, and visual settings were outstanding

many have complained about the length of the movie, but the story is so good and interesting that for me it went by at a good pace

i'll admit it, this is one of the first movies in a looooooong time in which i came close to shedding a tear

loved the guy who got struck by lightning 7 times...LOL!

The movie just got to Mexico and saw it. It was pretty good, I haven't seen Slumdog Millionaire but definitely it's my best movie of '08. Every performance was fantastic, as well as the photography. I know it can't compete to other films in Best Picture, Director, or Lead Male Actor, but it should be nominated in those categories. In Make-Up it will have a great possibility of winning and I'm pretty sure Taraji will be in the top for Supporting Role.

Best Fincher movie date, Fincher-Pitt movies keep getting better, maybe if there's another one it will top in everything, but I hope it doesn't happen.

That's what I'm worried about. The same reason why I haven't watched Juno more than once.

Saw this when it was in theaters and enjoyed it, picked it up about a year ago used on blu-ray, but haven't found time to revisit it, hopefully I can in the next day or two.

The main plot of the story was entertaining, but damn the scenes with the old woman and the daughter just drag it down like an anchor. So slow.
