Platoon, Patton, Traffic, Amadeus to name a few.

For what?
Still, she's butt ugly.

Suggestions for my New Hollywood marathon. I've actually picked six since I posted that, but if anyone has a good knowledge of the era and has a better suggestion than any of these six, please let me know:

Five Easy Pieces (Bob Rafelson, 1970)
Easy Rider (Dennis Hopper, 1969)
Mean Streets (Martin Scorsese, 1973)
Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice (Paul Mazursky, 1969)
They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? (Sydney Pollack, 1969)
Panic in Needle Park (Jerry Schatzberg, 1971)

I don't love They Shoot Horses, though I do quite like it. I'm not sure if this counts, but I feel like a marathon like that should include some Altman. The Long Goodbye is the shit.

Haven't seen Panic, Mean Streets or Bob & Carol yet.

I think I've seen most "New Hollywood Era" Altman. Off the top of my head; The Long Goodbye, Nashville, 3 Women, A Wedding, McCabe & Mrs. Miller, MASH.

In my instant queue. I'm super excited to see it, but by reputation it's supposed to be kind of a standard thriller, not necessarily a cinema revolution, right?

I want to add an Altman between MASH and Popeye that I haven't seen yet as my seventh film. Should it be Brewster McCloud, Images, Thieves Like Us, California Split, Buffalo Bill and the Indians or Sitting Bull's History Lesson, Quintet, A Perfect Couple or HealtH? I have my personal pick, but I'd like to hear your guys thoughts.

Want to hear a cool story? Or at least coo lto me because I'm drunk atm. Had to call PayPal today because apparently I started an account a few years ago that I totally forgot about that had a 40.01 balance. So I did that, and the username on that account was rohmerknee, and while taking care of the issue (transferring funds from my positive account and closing out the old account) the girl asked me if my username was in reference to Eric Rohmer's film Claire's Knee. I swear to god I almost proposed right then.

The Royal Tenenbaums (http://www.hipsterrunoff.com/tag/royal-tenenbaums) Family: Why Can’t We All Just Get Along on this Zany Road Trip called Life is a popular alt movie directed by alt director Wes Anderson (http://www.hipsterrunoff.com/tag/wes-anderson). So many entry-level vibe out to that movie, thinking that their family is ‘tragically beautiful.’ Sorta just wish my family was filled with prodigies, and we sorta had to sort out our childhood issues during our mid-20s, bringing us closer together.

Figured this was the appropriate place to post this:

Did Get Low disappoint the fuck out of anyone else? I loved Duvall's performance, but the film itself was shockingly cookie-cutter, especially after the vibe I got from the trailer. Should've focused on Lucas Black's character, focusing on Duvall erased all the mystery of the character.

Criterion now offers replacement plastic cases for their early Blu-ray titles that came in Digipaks. To order replacement cases you can send a PayPal payment to store@criterion.com with your address. According to Criterion the cases are $5 each (including shipping) for domestic orders (it's been reported that Criterion is no longer sending international.) If you order more than two cases in an order, each case after the initial two are $2.50 each (for three cases the cost would be $12.50 if ordered domestically.) Fantastic Fest is a "Genre Film" Festival here in Austin. It's gained some greatness over the last couple of years. Premieres in recent years: Zombieland, The Fountain, There Will Be Blood, Pan's Labyrinth (U.S. Premiere), Timecrimes, Inside (U.S. Premiere), etc...

So on a whim just now, I decided to check the current number of Criterion titles in my old library (haven't lived at home in about two years). They currently have, in their SUBURBAN LIBRARY collection, 434 titles.

I need to move back home.

I'm curious, has anyone ever read David Gilmour's memoir The Film Club? It's about him letting his son drop out of school if he agreed to watch three movies a week. It's really fascinating so far.

I've read it and I believe Dan has, too.

Haha at Del Toro putting Marienbad back on the shelf.

Anyway, going to a Criterion Karaoke party on Saturday night, should be interesting (Antichrist, Hausu, Cronos themed).

Just got back from the Metropolis restoration (beautiful).

Enter the Void is Gaspar Noe's vision of David Lynch's take on The Lovely Bones. It is equal parts "Amazing" and "Holy Shit, how much can you take from Mulholland Dr!?"

This was pretty interesting. Thanks for posting it.

So this is my final lineup for Milwaukee. Thoughts? The only ones I really want to see at Chicago are Made in Dagenham, Black Swan and Certified Copy. Since two of those are guaranteed wide releases in the near future, I think I'm just gonna pass on that fest completely.

Blue Valentine (Derek Cianfrance)
Cold Weather (Aaron Katz)
Date Night (Various (shorts collection))
Best Worst Movie (Michael Stephenson) <--- followed by a free midnight screening of Troll 2
Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives (Apichatpong Weersathekaul)
Night Catches Us (Tanya Hamilton)

Looks like we can expect The Game to come back to Criterion w/ a Blu-ray release.

The "really" was an incredulous one. I'd like to see Panic Room, Fight Club and especially Zodiac on Criterion well before this.

None of them have a previous Criterion release. I'm sure it's much easier for them to put an updated version of something out when they've already owned rights/done an edition before.

Not to mention the releases of Fight Club and Zodiac on BD are both already quite exemplary.

They do on their website. And hey, two bucks cheaper than the Criterion site.

I will probably just pick it up from B&N. Got some coupons and a membership there. I really enjoy the fact that the dvds become really fucking cheap with a membership. I think I scored Videodrome on dvd for at least in the 10-15$ price range.

From thedigitalbits.com:

And in other news from around the Net, DVD producer David Prior has apparently revealed that Criterion has licensed David Fincher's "The Game" from Universal. So... fingers crossed... we might finally see a truly worthy special edition of The Game on DVD and Blu-ray in the months ahead.
