i saw the diving bell and the butterfly last night, finally. after weeks of people talking about how great this film is.

i do not know of another word to describe this movie other than exceptional. and groundbreaking.

please go see it if its playing near you.

hard to explain - its the story of a man who becomes a vegetable after a stroke. the film is shot mostly from his point of view (ie: you're looking out of his eyes)...its really incredible.

if you can appreciate foreign films, please go see it. especially for free.

I think it's playing at one of my local theaters here on campus. I'm not a huge foreign film fan. Would I still dig it?

it was a travesty that this film wasn't nominated for Best Picture. Absolutely remarkable cinematography(easily the best of the year though i don't think it will beat Atonement). The scene where he 'speaks' to his father for the first time is simply heartbreaking. The soundtrack is quite good too. I can't praise this movie enough.

I'm so upset because this was playing at a local theater and I didn't realize until Monday and was busy but planned on seeing it Thursday, no realzing a bunch of movies would come out for V-Day and they lost the movie so I didn't get to see. I've wanted to see this so bad.

if you don't get to see it in a theatre, certainly rent it. i just have so many good things to say about this film.

I'm hoping to see this in theaters but if I don't I will certainly be renting it on the day it comes out on DVD.

Speaking of DVD, any details on that yet?

Speaking of foreign films, everyone must see 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days immediately. Personally, if I had to pick between these two as to which was the better film, i'd have to go with this one. It is, for lack of a better word, a MASTERPIECE.

Regardless of your stance on abortion, one of the hardest films to watch in recent memory.

while i wouldn't say it was a better film, 4 months was pretty incredible. was there a specific reason it wasn't nominated for foreign film(like a disqualification or something). i just don't understand that one. this would've easily beaten out any other in the category

Actually I don't think so. They just...didn't pick it, I believe.

Is there any reason they downplayed Bauby's progress in the movie?

And why the hell did they give him another daughter in the film?

It was my favorite film of the year.

4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days is playing on IFC On Demand if anyone has that and didn't know.

That was splendid.

I'm going to watch 4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days tomorrow. I watched it a few weeks ago but did not give it my full attention because friends were in my room being loud.

Just wondering--have you actually watched The Diving Bell and the Butterfly? In the MO thread you mentioned that as of February 20th The Diving Bell and the Butterfly was one of the few Oscar films you've "yet to see."
