Davey Havok has a very gifted voice in my opinion, his singing is unbelievable, one of my favourite, his style is awesome. When I saw them live he sung almost spot-on too. And not to mention, Adam Carson is one of the better drummers around in punk rock.

i think your problem is that your looking at this band as though they've released one album "sing the sorrow", which isn't a very good album.........but if you really want to know what people see in this band go pick up the "all hollows" ep or "black sails in the sunset" these will probably change your mind on the band.........but if they don't ah well.....

No, mirtizzle your absolutely right about the kids they attract, I drove to....wait did you say tampa, cause thats where I saw them to, every kid 12-15 year old kid at warped tour was sporting that I haven't showered in a week, or changed my favorite afi shirt look. It was depressing, and as for the show......I didn't stick around to watch the whole thing, I decided my time would be better spent watching some other band I had probably never heard of than watching the rest of the afi set.

I take it, you're one of those people with the "I'm a punk" attitude, since you think STS sucks (because its sooooo! punk to say how much AFI's newest album sucks! and it proves that you're in no way a "poser"/fangirl/fanboy), and you're assuming all this things about me, telling me how I won't like AFI anymore once they're not "trendy". Black Sails was the perfect blend of melancholy and hardcore/punk energy. The band decided to go another step, and record AOD, which wasn't bad either, but not great. However, Sing the Sorrow is devoid of emotion, devoid of integrity, and lacks the overall energy of the band's older stuff. They're now more concerned about furthering this dark image and marketing themselves to that crowd than they are about writing quality music. Davey thinks he's a demagogue or something these days, while little girls scream and touch his leather pants. Well, count me out of this little charade, this band is becoming a self parody.

I never said I knew anything about the song writing process, the songs just seem to lack what their past stuff had. It seems forced.

I personally, am a big AFI fan, and after seeing their live performance, even more so. They are just ... I don't know what it is about them, they're AFI. I think they have made a positive impact on the punk genre and have worked hard, really hard to get popular. Look at where they started, sometime in 88 or something. I have major respect for them, great band.

Sing the Sorrow is their best album in my opinion, whether everybody hates it or not ... it's a good change.

..i'm not even sure where to start with this one. Davey Havok is his real name but Havok is obviously not his real last name. Why is it retarded if he made it up? Many, many performs do this very same thing.

Also, the "deal" with him and make up is he wears it. So do a million other popular bands in the world. He's been doing for quite some time and continues to wear tons of eye makeup. And yes, he also does wear fake eyelashes. He likes to play up on his gender to keep people on their toes. People always end up going.. "Is that a girl or a guy?" It's lame and really stupid, but it happens.

Ok as a fan of AFI's, i'm not really sure if anyone is actually having any legit reason why they don't enjoy them. Even if you don't like their music, they put on a great live show. I'm a fan of their older stuff much more and not too much of the newer stuff though.

A lot of people (generally kids under 15) don't realise how far back AFI go. They think AFI have released only two albums and that they're some pop-punk band cashing in on the current emo trend. It's not even emo music!

I've been a fan of AFI for a long time and have to say that none of their releases have let me down (and I do have all of them with the exception of some early vinyls). Each album is unique and seems like a natural progression from the previous album.

i think your problem is that your looking at this band as though they've released one album "sing the sorrow", which isn't a very good album.........but if you really want to know what people see in this band go pick up the "all hollows" ep or "black sails in the sunset" these will probably change your mind on the band.........but if they don't ah well.....
maybe sing the sorrow isn't a good album if you really dig Black Sails era AFI, but it is still an amazing album. Had someone else made that album exactly the same, without AFI's reputation, they would be praised...
