I like to play to it for fun but I can never watch a professional game (I watched a few of the WC games last spring though). It's like F1, it's long and can get a bit boring.

i think once you get to know the rules of cricket it can be really interesting. i don't know them, so it's confusing as fuckall.
Roboman
02/25/08, 10:57 AM
So firstly you think it's boring/stupid whilst not knowing the rules. Yeah that would be logical.
Secondly are you into Baseball? If so then you have no right to ever call any sport boring.
Watching Cricket isn't the most rivetting thing but playing is really fun.
I've seen it played before and was briefly explained the rules, and even after that I think it's retarded. Granted, I don't even know what I'm doing in here since I don't really care about sports, but yes, I'd rather watch baseball than cricket.

Cricket is a quality sport. Fun to play and interesting to watch. It's no less confusing than American Football or Baseball and is actually pretty similar to baseball in a number of ways. Apparently it garnered a fair bit of popularity in America when a US team played in the World Cup. As well as that it is being taught in Chinese schools and may become one of the worlds most popular sports as it is played (or potentially will be) by 2 of the most populous countries in the world - China and India.
Admittedly to people who don't really understand it, it can be daunting to watch a full game but with the advent of 20/twenty cricket (basically a shortened version of the game which lasts about as much time as an NFL game) its popularity has grown immensely.

I didn't realize so many people were going back to Australia. They get paid this huge amount of money and they hardly have to do anything. Still not much compared to what US sports stars get though.
Don't think David Hussey has played a ODI for Australia yet, so he'll probably play the whole IPL. He was been playing pretty good for the Victorian Bushrangers before that, he might get selected.

Haha, no wonder there was so much controversy between our last series. I think both Australia and India were guilty of bad sportsmanship though. I'm still devastated we didn't get the 17 win streak record. We shouldn't of got 16 wins if it wasn't for Michael Clarke getting the 3 final wickets in the second last over. I had lost all hope until that happened.
They should, last time I checked they were on the top of the ladder and they don't look like losing anytime soon. Sweet brag, I've always wanted to get a box seat.

Haha, kinda. I'm never up that late at night these days. I try to watch as much as possible, but sleep gets in the way.
That's true, I'm not sure if Clarke will perform though. I don't think he's played much cricket recently with his gf's dad bring sick and then passing away. I'm pretty sure he was originally not going to play at all.

So sweet yet so unwise IMO .. I would hate anything to god forbid tarnish Warne's image if he makes his comeback .. every short ball will be criticised and there'll be too much of speculation about his fitness if he does infact lose his way in the slightest.

I really don't think Warne could do anything else to tarnish his image. I think people just take it as a given when he does something wrong now. If he's playing good cricket then there shouldn't be any criticism, then again I don't own the media.

Oh right. I agree, better to go out when you're on top and the next Ashes is still a while away. He has pretty much put it to rest of any comeback he might make, anyway. In the long run it will be better for Australia to get a young guy instead of relying on Warne.

Went to see Hampshire v. Somerset yesterday, it was a pretty good day.
Was Day 2 of 4, Hampshire started on 113-4 but Lumb got 107 and Ervine 69 which pretty much held up the innings.
Mascarenhas came in at the end with the tail and hit like, 41 off 25 balls :-)
All out for 316.

Phelps is a genetic freak of nature. I don't think Thorpe would have been putting up world records that beat Phelps at his age. Plus, Thorpe has had a lot of injury problems since Athens, which is why he retired. IMO, there would have been a closer race or two in the Olympics , but Phelps would have still won 8.

Huss was the captain for one ODI series last year against the Kiwis if memory serves correctly. I think he'd be a good captain but doesn't fit into the "Aussie captain" stereotype image created by Waugh, Ponting, Taylor etc.
On a side note, I was reading the paper and it had an article containing Clarke's over-ambitiousness. He apparently told Tendulkar to take a page off of Gilly's book and retire. Also in the Indian dressing room there's a joke that went around at the same time - Why is he called Pup? Because he's a son of a bitch.

but 4 those who hate cricket and r american sports fanatics cricket is as hard as any other sport mayb even harder. becoz not many ppl can stay in 30-40 degree celcius heats 4 a whole day and that too running around. batting is extremely difficult unlike baseball. 150km/h ball moving in a direction u dunt know about. bounce is sumtimes head high and you hav 2 hit it.the pads slow u down as well. not 2 mention spinners are even more difficult under a wearing pitch(unless he sucks which is hardly the case).
and who can bowl at 150 km/h or twist his wrist and fingers to move the ball. there r also many technical things such as breeze, swing(determined by state of the ball) and the rules-no bending of your arm while bowlingetc.
btw a cricket ball can be potentially dangerous as one of my friends cousins got hit at slips by a flying edge and unfortunately died. the point is a cricket ball is hard. if u dont know how to play play with a tennis ball first otherwise injuries will occur.

and btw wat do u think of India vs Aus series? i reckon itll go either way coz fab four are losing their touch while ozzies are losing their good players and getting shit players in return and their batting is getting pretty badly fked.
yeah it doesnt get much better than backyard cricket!
i wish i could have doen that over the house thing, but i live on a main road so its wasnt such a good idea hitting balls over the house. haha
yes, i played with all those rules too! we also played with automatic wickie. so if you tip the ball and it hits the fence behind you on the full ur out!
yeah it think it'll be a tight series. the aussie team are not what they used to be. and india are always competitive so it should be interesting

auto wicky was pretty controversial in our house coz wen sum1 shudve been out they never gave in so we stopped playing auto wicky.
No offence to Aussies but they shud b shameful that they r losing to Indian Presidential XI
And wat site u use 4 cricket scores? i use CricInfo coz I only got 2gb worth of usage a month otherwise cudve used sopcast (free viewing :D
One day and 20/20 are both fun, but test cricket will always be my favourite. I love the subtlety, the tactics, the drama.

Ganguly's retiring so what do you guys think? I reckon he should because he's starting to suck now.
Oh yeah and DaveZeroZero, I like your line "Writing well is the best revenge"

maybe. though its only the first day. maybe its a batters wicket and you guys will come out there and hit an awesome score too.
and our bowlers arnt what they used to be. we got some new guy playing his first test.

and however bad australia may be at this point in time, i am overwhelmingly sure that india are even worse, but who knows...huh, anything's known to happen in this game.
i still hope india win.

well what can i say, he's from punjab. but when he's pissed he does tend to get extreme results, whether in india's or australia's favour i have not a clue.
