I have alot of guilty pleasures, but I am musically inclined enough to know the difference between my guilty pleasures and truly great music. I have no problem making a playlist with bands like The Devil Wears Prada, Underoath, Spoken, Norma Jean and other trendy bands mixed in with The Beatles, Sufjan Stevens, Led Zeppelin, The Smiths, Jeff Buckley and other truly great artists and thoroughly enjoying it. That's just how I am, I guess.

Heck yeah, man. The more you know about music the harder it is to enjoy mediocre music. You know this, I'm sure, because you like alot of good artists and don't have much tolerance for mediocrity, which I totally understand. I was the same way for awhile, and it started making music less fun for me. I just learned to see great music as art and medicore music as entertainment. I found that it's easy to enjoy mediocre music as long as you view it as entertainment rather than art. It gives it a little different perspective. I know, I have strange views on music, I guess.

No, I understand your views. The only puzzling thing is mixing the mediocre with the genuinely artistic in a playlist.

How would you know how great The Beatles truly are if there isn't worse music to compare it to? Maybe it just makes The Beatles sound that much better. :-p

Haha, I don't know. I don't really have a good answer for why I like to mix mediocrity and brilliance.

To my knowledge, T-Pain is as much of a rapper as The Secret Handshake..

At the Drive-In
Mars Volta
The Decemberists
The Eels

and when it comes to Rap, based off the fact that you can somewhat like Lil Wayne and thus may like some southern rap,

Juelz Santana (yes. Not southern rap, but wayne fans generally like Santana.)
Killer Mike
Outkast (any album that came out before Stankonia)
Scarface (Basically, get The Diary and The Fix and you can skip most of the rest of his albums)
Z-Ro (Get Look at What You Did to Me or Let the Truth be Told)
Devin Da Dude (Get Just Tryin Ta Live, and if you like that get Tha Dude)
Bubba Sparxx (Get Deliverance)

and, it may be a stretch, but listen to the Goodie Mobb album "Soul Food".
