NEW YORK (March 7) - Newman! Jerry Seinfeld is reportedly in talks to come back to NBC with a new show, which will be "just like 'Curb Your Enthusiasm,'" only starring Seinfeld instead of his co-creator pal, Larry David, Page Six reports (http://www.pagesix.com/story/seinfeld+plans+nbc+comeback).

With an hopeful premiere date in June, the show will reportedly feature Seinfeld playing himself, much like the highly successful 'Curb' on HBO.

'Seinfeld' went off the air in 1998 with a monstrous finale, as more than 75 million people tuned in to watch as Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer bid the TV world farewell. The show's boast that it was "about nothing" is what made it such a hit, and since going off the air, Seinfeld has done a movie here and there but never flirted with TV again.

i hope this is not true. seinfeld is the most unfunny person alive.

I think it's not cool that they are just going to rip off "Curb" like that but I'll give the pilot a shot before I pass any judgement.

Larry > Jerry

Seinfeld's stand-up comedy is crap but his show was hilarious. Go figure.

Larry > Jerry
true.
i just can't see Jerry's life being as interesting or funny as Larry's.

What? The link you posted only says that both NBC and Seinfeld are denying those reports and that they're completely fabricated.

Besides, Jerry would never return to television and he's said that over and over.

I've never liked Seinfield. The only time I actually enjoyed him was in 30 Rock

This would be a poor decision. This could only mar his reputation; there's no way it could be better than Seinfeld.

Yeah I would watch it but think about what would happen if it bombed. It would look terrible for him.

Seinfeld has its moments which are great, but not too many episodes are funny throughout. Friends is the best.

Jerry Seinfeld is funny and Seinfeld is one of the best shows of all time.

Although, Seinfeld could never pull off what Larry David does better than him.

When he was on the Daily Show, he talked about a possibility of a 1 time only special of sorts where the cast would reunite at the Monk's, or something along those lines. I'm paraphrasing obviously, but yeah I don't think he'd return fully to television.

I stand by what I said. All 6 friends are great characters with amazing chemistry. And every episode is laugh after laugh.

I stand by what I said. All 6 friends are great characters with amazing chemistry. And every episode is laugh after laugh. That's much more true of Seinfeld than Friends. Friends went sharply downhill once Chandler and Monica got engaged. It was a solid show but the comedy was just obvious, predictable humor. The complexity of the storylines wasn't nearly as deep either.

now that Heroes is gone, there's nothing worth watching.
I'm left watching re-runs of Fresh Prince & George Lopez ^_^.

Really? I can think of a lot of great episodes after that. Ping Pong in Barbados comes to mind first, and a bunch more. In an overall sense, I think Friends is better. But, Seinfeld has really great epic moments that I'm reminded of quite frequently. I tend to say all the time, "Oh, that reminds me of Seinfeld."

I tend to say all the time, "Oh, that reminds me of Seinfeld."Yeah there were some good episodes after that but they started repeating so many stories and danced around the Ross/Rachel thing way too long. It just seemed like they stretched on for 2 or 3 seasons more than they should have. Every one knew Ross/Rachel were going to end up together when the show ended so that ruined the later seasons for me. I just hate when shows get that predictable.

I stand by what I said. All 6 friends are great characters with amazing chemistry. And every episode is laugh after laugh.Haha, way truer in Seinfeld's case. Friends is great but in all honesty it's just like most comedies. Seinfeld is so unique in every way and almost every episode is culturally quotable these days.

I totally hit up that late night Nickelodeon/Noggin TV schedule: Fresh Prince, George Lopez, and Home Improvement.

I am a huge fan of Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm but this idea is just retreaded material. NBC needs ratings, sure ... and Jerry is the man they would turn to, but ... don't rip off Larry David's genius just because you can't garner the ratings you once had.

what was wrong with the seinfeld finale? i thought it was hilarious.Yeah nothing was wrong with it. The truth is that was the hardest series to write an ending for and that final season there wasn't an arc so no story line needed to be wrapped up. Larry wanted to bring most of the characters back and the only way to do that was with a trial. The only reason people didn't like it is because they all had a vision in their head of how they wanted the series to end and nothing that Larry wrote would've lived up to that.

Also, like the cast has said many times, the finale is comprised of not only the episode but the 45 minute clip show before. Those final 3 minutes of the clip show that are played to Green Day's "Good Riddance" is actually one of my favorite parts of the entire series.

The way Seinfeld ended is too subtle for most people, but if you watch it a few times, it makes more sense. Larry David wrote one of the most subdued and subtle scripts he ever penned with that finale, and people were just expecting something bigger. It makes perfect sense for these four self-obsessed, completely self-centered individuals to be put in jail for everything they have done, because eventually your bad deeds come back to punish you. The show ends with the same conversation that started it, and really, it's only unresolved (in some sense) because eventually, we all know they got out of jail and we're curious to see what kind of evolution they go through.

That show would be much more interesting than the current idea, because everyone wants to know what George, Jerry, Elaine and Kramer have become since exiting prison. Yeah, it would never happen, but the concept is much more lucrative.

Seinfeld needs to stay away, which i think he will. If he comes back with a new show it will never live up to Seinfeld and everyone will get hyped and be thoroughly disappointed.

ouch? never even seen that show, actually.
maybe you guys have never seen GI (I don't blame you) but if you research it, Lost rips off more than just the "stranded on an island" theme.
maybe it's to pay homage to it, but damn if the similarities aren't plentiful.
