The Love Guru - starring Mike Meyers, Jessica Alba, Justin Timberlake.

"Pitka, an American raised outside of his country by gurus, returns to the States in order to break into the self-help business. His first challenge: To settle the romantic troubles and subsequent professional skid of a star hockey player whose wife left him for a rival athlete."

Written by Mike Meyers too.

I've been waiting since Austin Powers 3 to see Mike Meyers in a genuinely funny role, and I think this might finally be it. This seems like it should pretty much be his new Austin Powers type movie with different characters. Much of the comedy seems to be the same, but to me that's a good thing.

Thoughts?

Austin Powers 3 wasn't good, so if it winds up being like that count me out

I thought Justin Timberlake with a French accent was the only funny part of the trailer

Eh, it looks OK. I didn't really find it funny from the trailer. We'll see.

If this didn't have Justin Timberlake in a speedo, I would rent it. Well not even rent it, probably wait for it to come on one of my premium channels. But since it has Justin Timberlake in a speedo, I am forced to see this in theatres sadly. :-D

Timberlake isn't a bad actor. In fact, I kinda like him. He was great in Alpha Dog. I never saw Black Snake Moan though.

The only Timberlake movie I saw was that one that ALWAYS came on Disney back in his NSYNC days with the two girls who looked alike & they switched lives or something.

Mike Myers can be funny but he relies on the same material too much, which is a shame.

I dunno about this, I think he is a great actor but this is really typical of him.

The funniest thing to me was G.U.R.U., it stands for Gee, you are you! Haha, it took me a while to get the joke but it's pretty damn clever

Yeah, I guess I should elaborate. Myers tends to use the same exact jokes in every film.

The Scottish accent, most of the gags in Goldmember, etc.

It's cool that several comic actors have their own style, but when you literally begin to recycle jokes and don't bother covering up the fact that you are copying yourself ... it just gets increasingly tiresome. That's how I feel about Mike Myers - he has good jokes, but he relies on the same ones too often.

black guy playing hockey?

Hahaha, that makes, what? Two total?

I still think Mike Myers is still one of the best comedic actors. Wayne's World and Austin Powers were simply amazing, and judging from the trailer I still think he has great comedic timing and some new stuff. The "Mom got a job" line, "gimme a pound, lock it down," snappy soup stuff all made me laugh because of his delivery. I think the supporting cast for this film is also great, with Alba, Good, Kingsley, and even JT, who has some comedic chops.

I noticed a second trailer came out, so here it is:

This trailer is just wonderfully silly, and is similar to Mike Myers' other movies. Methinks I will laugh a lot when I see this.

Best part was Ben Kingsley's appearance imo, lol!

"Mariska Hargitay" lol!

I'm also looking forward to seeing Daniel Tosh's role in this is. He's not on the IMDb page, but I'm wondering if he's a rival hockey player or just a townie at the bar in the first trailer.

Chris Fallon

Some of those YouTube clips are good for a small chuckle, but Myers tends to use the same sketch ideas and twist them around. Sure, lots of comic actors have a style that suits them, but Myers' basically uses the same few jokes and hasn't really been "fresh" since Austin Powers 2.

I don't know what to expect in terms of box office numbers, but I figure I'll be in need of a ridiculous comedy at some point this summer, and this movie looks like it'll fit that bill perfectly. Plus I'm not one to miss a Mike Myers comedy. I missed the first Austin Powers movie in theaters and I wish I hadn't!

Figured I'd bump this as the film opens this Friday. I've seen a few TV ads featuring the supporting cast, mostly Romany Malco and Timberlake, but I also caught glimpses of Jim Gaffigan and Stephen Colbert. Anyone else see that? I also heard from a friend that Bob Probert was on the radio recently and was saying he had a cameo ... I'm prayin' for an 80's style hockey fight!

I love Mike Myers, so I'm sad to hear that it was so bad, but it did indeed look pretty awful.

We now have our second box office bomb of the summer! The Love Guru joins Speed Racer in the lion pit of shame, which The Happening is in just because it sucked, not because it was a box office bomb.

Welcome to the suck

No...I saw it...sadly. 4/10.....a couple funny jokes and some pretty outrageous scenes gave me a few laughs, but overall it was pretty terrible.......I saw Get Smart as well and that was much better.

I saw part of this movie (I had to leave early...long story behind why). I didn't think it was terrible, but it definitely was far from great. I might go back to see the whole thing soon.

Now I just hope we get Austin Powers 4 soon.

Get Smart was pretty funny. I'd rather see that over and over than see elephants have sex or hear numerous penis jokes.
