2008 MLB Predictions (w. a surprise)

Opening day is in a few days i think, so here I go

I'll post division rankings followed by playoff predictions along with my great analysis and some input by JD Drew << SURPRISE!

AL EAST
1. Red Sox
Me: the red sox are coming off another championship, they will be just as dominant as last year, they have some youth mixed with some seasoned veterans. pitching staff looks to be very nice
JD: i agree this is the team to beat
2. Rays
Me: a team 10 years in the making is ready to win and 2008 is when they come out of their nut shells
JD: i think if scott kazmir actually pitched, they would be 10x better
3. Yankees
Me: they will have wished that they got Santana
JD: the bronx smells like feces
4. Blue Jays
Me: i forgot they played baseball in canada stillJD: what is canada?
5. Orioles
Me: pretty bad team, they got rid of their best steriod using player, Mr. Tejada. they got a lot of prospects who will turn out to play in 17 games and hiht .017. A bright spot will be Adam Jones, sexy young super outfielder. he was worth the fat canadian in erik berdard
JD: i wish i was as smart as you i agree

AL CENTRAL
1. Indians
Me: These guys had a great run last year, i don't think they lost anyone they will be back with some battery acid taste in their mouth to get back to the alcs again, they have to be good i mean who had two movies made after their team
JD: i was thinking of signing with them but then i thought i would have to live in ohio, then i said oh no!
2. Tigers
Me: big trade in the off season, but miami isn't as cold as detroit. they will struggle mightly when it starts snowing in april and in September
JD: i use vaseline in the cold
3. Royals
Me: these guys are chumps and have been for a decade now. they have a lot of youth, some of which will flourish (see: Billy Butler, Alex Gordon) who cares about the rest of the team. they got a new manager, a white man from japan
JD: -is on the phone with his wife, took a pass on KC-
4. White sox
Me: I forgot what they did in the off season, but there is two good teams in their division so thats like 36 losses already. i think they lost some pitchers didn't really acquire anyone. i would rather go to the cubs if in chicago then this shitty side
JD: I'm sooooo happy i'm on the RED sox instead of these losers 5. Twins
Me: these guys, lacking talent or lacking any big money players, always seem to finish decent and go on a streak late in the season. Hunter is gone, santana is gone but liriano is on his way back? who cares
JD: they only have good player, morneau, you can't count on canadians anyway.. oh mauer is good i wish he was on my team

1. Angels
Me: what a great team!! + tori hunter - 400 pound monster (see: Bartolo Colon) = division champs again!
JD: aren't they always soo good but quiet in the playoffs?
2. Mariners
Me: erik berdard will finally have the opportunity to feel how a winning team feels, will it be enough to get him to the playoffs though?
JD: sometimes i listen to my iPod in the locker room because i get depressed if i get boo'ed (rare occassion though), they should play 2pac - changes maybe they can win the division this year
3. A's
Me: some people left, none came in right? oakland is a shithole though its hard to compete with two great teams though
JD: oakland and San Francisco are soo close but soo far apart, they both have shitty baseball teams though
4. Rangers
Me: No comment
JD: Will they ever be good?

1. Mets
Me: they will return to championship form, but losing lastings milledge is very hurtful. also they are looking for a 1st basemen
JD: they will make a strong statement this season, everyone wants to forget about that collaspe i heard some people are still crying in queens
2. Bravest
Me: they will be back to atlanta braves form, well except losing to the mets. they got rid of that horrible chubby centerfielder, new beginnings in atlanta
JD: the addition of glavine is really a subtraction of someone good from the rotation, dont taze me bro
3. Marlins
Me: another young team, traded away some talented players who were on the border of being old (25?) they have some good young guys they will learn to win like they do every year
JD: what a shocker
4. Nationals
Me: acquired some great talent (Lastings Milledge), dont have the pieces to the puzzle of winnign yet
JD: do you think montreal misses them?
5. Phillies
Me: last year was a fluke,
JD: stop bro

NL CENTRAL
1. Brewers
Me: young team, learned how to win a little bit last year, lots of hitters, lots of beer, 350 pound 1st basemen are a key to winning
JD: didnt i use to play here?
2. Cubs
Me: unlike last year, will find success early lots of talent on this side of chicago
JD: soriano is a good guy, they can stop worrying about when mark pryor will get healthy everyone forgot about kerry wood too
3. Reds
Me: i dont know who is on the team,
JD: why do they put baseball teams int he worst cities possible?
4. Pirates
Me: a lot of no namers, a lot of missing puzzle pieces this division sucks even with an extra team to pick from
JD: N/a
5. Astros
Me: texas teams aren't good at baseball i concluded, but weren't they good like 5 years ago?>
JD: i wish iw as like hunter pence, well atleast im better looking
6. Cardinals
Me: the chicago white sox of the nl, didnt they win recently? and now they suck and will suck again albert pujols wil lhave an off year and so will the city of st.louis
JD: they keep calling me asking me to back to right field i laugh in their faces

1. Diamondbacks
Me: superb pitchers, decent (not reallY) hitting will just be as good as last year maybe even hit the ball
JD: i concur, danny haren + brandon webb + whoever else is a batters nightmare
2. Dodgers
Me: lots of young talent, only hitting catcher in the mlb, some veterans a decent staff, joe torre = more wins in 2008
JD: i like
3. Rockies
Me: last years feel good story, they are a good team but its a tough division
JD: im glad we never have to play these guys, its sooo hard to breathe
4. Giants
Me: everyone forgot there was a baseball t eam called the giants since the football team won the superbowl and barry bonds left, they have a nice little young staff but i think they will get lots of 0's in the scoreboard
JD: lack of bats will realy be a problem in their line up they could use someone like ............. ......... me?
5. Padres
Me: not a good team i dont know how they had any success,
JD: losers

They've been doing pretty okay during Spring Training, I've seen them play better but my figers are crossed for a really GOOD season this year.

While you don't have to hit HR's to be valuable (1 every 91 at-bats is abysmal) the fact that he doesn't get on base at all, throws like a 15 year old chick, and is not a good defender means he's not valuable.

Podsednik was so good the White Sox had no choice but to cut him go after last season. He was just THAT much better than anyone else on the team, guys were getting jealous. Looks like the Rockies signed him to a minor league deal, so I'm sure he will lead their AAA team to mediocrity this year.

i was a scotty fan, especially after '05...for that postseason alone he'll live in all sox fans' hearts forever. but it was clear last season that his time had passed...swisher and quentin should be solid pickups for them. the bullpen is also improved...although that doesn't say much considering how awful it was last year. i'm most worried about their starting rotation, given the fact they lost garland and didn't make ANY pickups there.

i'm hopeful for 85-90 wins, but that won't be enough with the division they're in, unfortunately.
