Ok. I'm from Vermont, so of course i'm half expected to want Dean to turn into some kind of home state hero and win the election. I mean, he looks like evey democrat's favorite boy, he's got Carter and Gore behind him as well as many other respected politicians and I am all for his somewhat frowned upon liberal stance. Personally, I almost cried at his first rally in Burlington when he started all that "take back your country" stuff. In my opinion, we need to take back our country. Liberal unknown is better than Bush and his oil grubbers anyday.

Gore is supporting him because he knows Dean will lose in the election, and then Gore can run in '08.

Here's the problem with Dean:
He changes his opinions on things way too often. He was against the death penalty, now he's for it. He's also said things like: "I'm the only major candidate running, who's in reasonably good shape in the polls, who voted “No” on the Iraq Resolution."
Unfortunately for Dean, he is, in fact, not a Member of Congress -- either of the House of Representatives or the Senate. Thus, he has (and had) no vote on the Iraq resolution.
Do I still like his ideals? Yup. Will I vote for him? Possibly (either him or Kerry in the primaries)....I just wish he was more concrete.

I feel that exactly, also, i forgot to ad in my original post, altough i like Dean the most out of the canidates, i don't think he has the potential to win. Why? Because since he passed civil union laws in Vermont, he goes against the opinions of most of America.

Go Lieberman! Although I don't think he will get the nomination. Even if Dean gets the nomination, he won't win. He is way too liberal for the moderates to get behind him.

From listening to Dean speak I just don't think he is experienced enough to be President. He lacks any foreign policy experience and just does not seem like a strong leader. I think that John Kerry would be a great President, he's been in Congress for many years and seems to have a firm grasp of all the major issues right now and is a good speaker.

dean seemed like a good canidate to me until just a few days ago when i realized he's a total flake and while i'm not really a proponent of the war on terror, dean just seems to say bush is wrong, and not what he's going to do to realisticlly change the way it's being handled

He takes a stand, but is willing to change it when it seems convenient.

Yeah I was more of a Liberman guy myself. I go with the opinion that has been expressed about Dean not being much of a self thinker, just using a straight forward anti-bush campaign isn't going to cut it.

Sadly, no one will be able to take Bush in the end, so frankly I don't think it really matters what anyone else says until next election. But, this will be a good time to see what people are like, and no one is really good, but hey, I don't really like any politician.

Lieberman would be a very good challenger......but the primaries play to the extremist within a party, causing the more qualified nominees to lose out....

from what i've been hearing, lieberman has been changing his views so he sounds very much so like bush.
also, if bush wins in november, watch for hillary running in '08 in an open race.

it depends on the issue, lieberman, like most americans, is a moderate taking no extreme view on any issue, he also tends to side for what he feels is right, rather then what is popular with his party (the sign of a good politician).......even you can not say that everything bush has done is wrong, whether you like him or not....

i agree, but for people who want a big change, i don't think lieberman's the man.

i absolutely agree with you on the "change" issue......but i dont think (and this is just me personally thinking) that most people want a large change in government.....

Exactly....I mean, the last President to really "change" the government was FDR. Everyone after them made moderation to the system, but didn't make huge changes to how it was run.

No Democrat really has the power to win right now, which I agree is sad (but I''m a real leftist anyway, so I'll never be happy with American politics) The Democrats need to stop their in fighting, soon. Pull thier stuff together and join forces and stop Bush from himself. I'm not a Bush supporter by anymeans. I will be voting Dean because is his the complete contrast to Bush, which will be refreshing for American politics.

Dude, you don't even know what not being happy with American politics is. I have problems with everything. The only thing I like about the constitution is that they made it so it can be changed, but everybody is too patriotic and scared to really change it.
The root problem with the presidential run, and pretty much every other election, is the campaign system. i don't think we will ever have a good person in any government position until the campaign system is overhauled completely. Well, I guess that is a little off topic, so to shift gears...
I heard a scary thing today from a democrat: she was going to vote for "The General" because he was the only one conservative enough to go against Bush. That horrifies me. I guess if anyone is going to beat Bush, they are going to have to be more conservative than what any true democrat would like.

Have you heard the new allegations against Dean stating he took money from various interest groups while he was Governor of Vermont?

Yeah, I heard that too. Also, I saw footage of him slaming the Iowa caucusses (spelling?) a few years ago on a Canadian program, but now he says that he doesn't think that. Man, can this guy not flip-flop on anything he says?

^^ I agree totally. I also saw that thing from Canada. I don't honestly know how someone can vote for Dean. How can a person vote for someone who may change his stance at any time. In this way, you really don't know what or who you are voting for. It's like he's just one big Public Opinion Poll wrapped in a person's body.
This is coming from a Democrat, also. I plan on voting Edwards in the Primaries....then I really don't know who in the General Election. If Dean wins and names a competent VP, I will consider voting for him...but I just don't have comfidence in anything he "stands" for.

he also talked about how he didn't think bush could lose in a re-election...ironic.

yea, dean sucks (also coming from a democrat), but i can't believe gore! he obviously has no loyalty to anyone. he's a total ass. i can't believe lieberman hasn't trashed gore yet.

As Yeat182 stated before (I think) the main reason Gore is backing Dean is because he thinks Dean will lose to Bush, but win the nomination. This keeps Gore in the papers and allows for a little more coverage looking ahead to the 2008 election. I tend to think that, if Gore honestly thinks Dean could beat Bush, he would be running for election instead of just backing a candidate.

yeah, because if Dean does win the election, then there is a good chance he could win re-election in 2008 and then Gore would have to wait until 2012 to run.

or maybe he thinks dean could win (i wouldn't know why) and doesn't want to split the democratic party up by running.
probably right though about gore wanting his name in the papers.

if dean wins though, Gore won't be able to run until 2012, so that wouldn't make sense for him.

well he could run but wouldn't have to great a chance unless dean gets elected and does a bad job.

it would be all but impossible for Gore to get his parties nomination over the incumbent president, Dean would have to royally fuck up
