as many of you all probably are, i am very passionate about my music.
still, i wish i had more bands to enjoy.
i was hoping some of you could suggest some underground/not mainstream bands that i might like.
here are some of my favorite bands.
[i should also mention i've been in more of a synthetic mood lately. i.e. 'a fever you can't sweat out',¡viva la cobra!']

first tier [i love nearly every single song from these bands]:
jack's mannequin
something corporate
panic at the disco
cobra starship
the rocket summer

second tier [still some of my favorites, but not as loved as first tier]:
october fall
the beatles
green day
ben folds
ben kweller
cold war kids

thank you very much :)

minus the bear, bloc party, hot chip, broken spindles

try those out, not a huge indie fan, so i can't provide a ton of assitance. but i like the above a lot.

Pitchforkkkkkkkkk.
Guitar pop was perfected by 1969. All else is surplus.
No love for Let It Be?

As for my suggestions, Bob Dylan, Nick Drake, The Zombies, John Coltrane, Marvin Gaye, Iron & Wine, Radiohead, Neil Young, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Smog, Miles Davis, Bill Withers, etc.

The only band of those I heard of from Pitchfork first was Fleet Foxes. Is Pitchfork regarded as a poor source of music criticism around here or something? I just suggested a few really good indie bands that I hadn't seen already and that weren't super popular or obvious. But yeah it is the Pitchfork kind of music and if that's all you meant I agree.

And I think he meant to say it was perfected in 1967 actually, the best year for music ever.

Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, Are You Experienced?, Surrealistic Pillow, The Doors, Disraeli Gears, , Piper at the Gates of Dawn, The Velvet Underground & Nico, and Their Satanic Majesties Request to name a few. It's hard to beat 67.

While users have recently decided to negatively associate anything "indie" with Pitchfork, that wasn't the intent of my post. I actually quite enjoy any site that can introduce me to new tunes and the reviews are rather well-written. Just pointing out how the bands mentioned ooze of Pitchfork hype.

i see some have said 'listen to better music'. i've never really judged music as being good or bad, but rather just 'good' or 'bad' according to one's likes or dislikes. i don't think it's ever fair to say a band 'sucks' or not because it's not just one person's place to say if it sucks. but anyway, i won't complain about the insults to my bands directly because i'm new. haha.

thank you all very very much. i'll definitely check out these bands as soon as i can. i appreciate your input greatly.

Based on your tastes and your request for something more synthenized/electronic, I'd recommend The Graduate's Anhedonia. Good pop-punk/powerpop with some electronic elements.

They all followed the ways of Brian Wilson after hearing Pet Sounds in 1966
