Carter Beauford gets my vote, John Bonham maybe... Although Brendan Ekstrom may be the coolest out of those and Thomas Pridgen is insane. But the old Saosin drummer is way better than Alex, and it's kind of funny that the Brand New guy is even up there.

Jon Theodore, formerly of the Mars Volta. He's a fuckin' animal.

On a side note, can everybody stop wackin' it to everything Saosin does? They're not that good, and their drummer does not deserve a spot on this poll, much less to be in the lead.

You obviously haven't noticed, most of the people on this site - or anywhere else for that matter - heavily dislike Saosin.
All we're doing is expressing our appreciation for his talent, just like you're doing for your favorite drummer, and like everyone else here is doing for theirs.

He's got more technical talent and mechanics than any other person on the poll, and he does it at greater speeds than most of the others.

Not to mention he makes it look like it's so damn easy for him, and that playing like that is as easy a feat as breathing.

someone should go through and listen to identity crises, then any of the new thrice stuff, and tell me that riley hasn't shown incredible growth, and understanding of his place in that band. And that creates a wholly amazing drummer.

Thank god, I'm so tired of everyone worshiping Travis Barker, and worse trying to defend themselves when actual drummers that know what they're talking about try and say any different.

I'm gonna assume you meant in the genre cause there's no way any of these guys can touch some the great's, Neil Pert, Dave Weck, Dennis Chambers, Buddy Rick, none of whom you mentioned. Alex Rodriguez is probably the best listed but even in the genre there's better one's. I'm not sayin any of these guys are better but LP-Yellowcard, Branden Steineckert-the Used, Josh Eppard-Coheed and Cambria, Dango-Amber Pacific are all definitely mentionable.

VERY untrue. They are highly overrated by just about everyone on this site, their drummer included. He's nowhere near Jon Theodore, Andrew Forsman, Christopher Tsagakis, Steve Clifford, ?uestlove, Josh Eppard, etc. Everyone just rates them WAY higher than they ever deserve.

haha, Brendan Ekstrom. im an idiot. sorry Steve Clifford

couple of aspects of the poll surprise me here. i wasnt expecting Rodriguez to be leading; personally i think the guy is an outstanding drummer, but i wouldnt say hes the best and considering the Saosin hate that goes on in this site i expected him to be near the bottom. still, good for him. expected Pridgen to be heading the poll. not surprised hes second, nor that Riley is third. VERY disappointed that Hajjar only has 17 votes, because i voted for him. obviously not a lot of voters are fans of Sparta or remember his ATD-i work. shame, oh well

in hindsight shouldnt have included an "Other" option. it was obvious loads of people were gonna say Barker. personally i think hes an excellent drummer, but i only wanted to include drummers from my favourite bands...and Brian Lane just coz its AP.net

oops, didn't even notice the person above me had the exact same thoughts!!
drummer from August Burns Red. sure I realize they are metal/hardcore so there's a lot of double bass, but if you watch that man play, well damn, it's quite impressive. Listen to "the Eleventh Hour" for proof.

The drummer from As I Lay Dieing is a better double bass player.

In terms of just how awesome a drummer is, i'd put matt greiner from August Burns Red at the top of my list. in terms of fitting drums perfectly with songs, its a tie between Dave Douglas (former Relient K), Nate Young (Anberlin), and Aaron Gillespie (Underoath, the Almost)

Brian Lane. But maybe I'm biased, because he IS my favorite member of Brand New. However, his drumming on TDAG is amazing and carries the emotional mood perfectly with his drumming. His drumming is the highlight of a handful of songs off that album and he's definitely growing more and more as the years go by.

he may be faster than matt greiner (august burns red) but he has nothing on him for his use of timing, the way plays the songs and his creation..

matt doesnt blast with his feet, he makes magic :)

Brendan Ekstorm does not play the drums in Circa, Steve Clifford does.

My vote goes to Riley...

They're all really amazing drummers and its hard to choose,
but I went with Alex Rodriguez.
I watched Saosin live from the side stage once and I just watched him in awe half the time
Cove the lead singer was even watching him in awe too at times during the show, he just looked at us like yeah, i know hes crazy good...

You shouldn't have put other, because IMO that would mean who do you think is the best drummer in the world, and again, IMO, that's definitely no one on that list. For the sake of the list, I put Alex Rodriguez because he's ridiculously fast with some of those fills and he's really solid. As for other though, I would probably say Danny Carey of Tool, or someone else. He has amazing sense of time and he's ridiculously fast and skilled when he wants to be.

I could deal with technique even though I don't think it's that bad, and I kinda expected someone to say he's doin more than what fits, but not creative? You can't find 30 solid seconds on the whole album where he stays to a basic 2 and 4. Have you listened to the verse of Voices or the intro to You're Not Alone? At the very least, it's pretty damn creative.

well he was really really amazing when i saw him play, he did perfectly and did some crazy shit during the show, it was awesome. but with bands there are always some good and some bad shows, so perhaps you caught the bad and i caught the good.

Travis Barker is good...but I think he is overrated.

Here are the best drummers IMO:

Aaron Gillespie of Underoath
Jordan Mancino of As I Lay Dying
Matt Greiner of August Burns Red
Darren King of Mute Math
Nathan Young of Anberlin

I've never really noticed till I saw them live the other night, but The Rev of Avenged Sevenfold is an amazing drummer too.

You haven't even mentioned matt tong, has anyone ever listened to a song by bloc party? It's a serious problem that he doesnt get a mention, it's an even bigger problem that you picked these drummers, I bet at least half of them are american. Broaden your horizons

First of all, THE MARS VOLTA are on another level. THese bands are kids compared to them. xept mute math. THOmas having a guitar center drumm off win under his belt at age 16, TO hang with these cats is somethin great. ENough about travis, even though coincedently i play in a three piece punk band, own a amber pork pie acryic snare drumb and roll around in a cadillac deville. IM sorry call me ignorent, but... right now, and for the future, thomas's chops just rased the bar for future artist. YOU TUBE HIM, AND MAKE SURE UR FRIENDS WHERE THEIR TO WITNESS.
