Eyes Set To Kill - Reach
Release Date: February 19th, 2008
Record Label: BreakSilence Records
Who?
That one band who you've heard of but have never really felt like dealing with Myspace's awful music player enough to actually check out. Arizona's Eyes Set To Kill pitter-patter in nu-screamo, use laughable gothicy text almost throughout the entire album casing, and, most of all, utilizes clean-cut female vocals on the forefront of their chuggy barrage of churning guitars and searing screams.
How Is It?
Reach never really manages to reach any form of innovation or clarity, preferring the route of sticking to what they accomplished with their previous album, When Silence Is Broken The Night Is Torn -- which isn't much. Vocalist Alexia Rodriguez saves the band a good amount of grief because her voice is absolutely a breath of fresh air. It was really the only aspect of the entire album I didn't have a problem with. The backup screaming that reiterates almost every single one of her verses, through many of the songs, is a very abrasive vocal element to Reach, however. Alexia seems to be able to stand on her own almost too well, so when certain lines are repeated by a sub-par howl, well, it does not really help things. Instrumentally, the album is about as well-rounded as it can be without being creative -- and everyone knows they wouldn't want that. Fans of Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Bless The Fall, and/or Drop Dead, Gorgeous should feel right at home.
