For the people who saw Return of the King on opening day, what did you think? I thought it put the other movies to shame.

The first movie I thought was ok, the second one I fell asleep in the theater and that makes me not want to go see the 3rd.

The movie was amazing...best of the trilogy I think. I expected that though considering Return of the King was my favorite book as well. The only thing I didnt like was that some of my favorite parts in the book were left out. But the movie was still amazing. I cried at the end

i FINALLY saw it....man it completely drained all emotion from my body. im still trying to look for it :)...i laughed, cried, jumped on off my seat, clapped etc whilst watching. What a movie.
They left out some stuff from the book that i would have loved to see...but hey, i guess that might be in the extended version :)
SO DAMN GOOD.

My in-depth review of Return of the King:
Best. Movie. Ever.
Ever.
OK, now all jokes aside, let's see here ...
It was undescribable. Sitting there on the edge of my seat, scene after scene, and at the end, my emotions drained completely from my body. The excitment alone made me tired, the tension that the movie held was absolutely undescribable, the sorrow, the friendship, it was absolutely incredible. I never thought that I would ever see a movie that good. Nothing was wrong with it. NOTHING. After the movie, I was in complete awe, staring at the credits for a good 10 minutes. I couldn't believe it. So damn good. The best. Any other movie out there has nothing on this movie. Why? Because it was that damn good. I could go on for hours about this movie.
cantnokdahustle, Kamtin, how can you be dissapointed by this movie? I wish I could see how it is possible, but I can't.
My expectations for this movie were huge, and yet it completely succeeded those, and more. No other movie will ever reach this standard in terms of tension, excitment, sorrow, storyline, introduction, conclusion. Unbelievable.

i really can't pick favorites, seeing as half of the second book was put in the third movie. so, i dunno.
i thought the movie was very good though. they did leave a lot out...again...but i mean, they can't include everything.
but i was SO ready to see saruman cast down by gandalf. and i was a little weirded out when they reforged the sword two movies too late.

I agree with anyone who said that it was the best movie ever. It made every single other movie I've ever seen look like a pile of puke (yes, even the previous two LOTR movies which I LOVE by the way). In fact, it was SOOO good that it makes up for the crapiness of every single other movie I've ever seen. The climax of the movie (when Gollum bites of Frodo's finger and falls down into the Cracks of Doom; HAHA SPOILERS!) was exactly as glorious and mindblowing and amazing as I imagined and hoped it would be when I first read the book three years ago.
My only complaint is that they never even addressed what happened to Saruman. In the book, when they go to Isengard, Saruman comes out and talks to them, and then Gríma Wormtongue throws the palantír over a higher balcony (the book says that the characters were unsure if the aim was directed at Gandalf or Saruman himself, making a point of Wormtongue's treachery, as it landed halfway between the two wizards). So they take the palantír and leave, and Saruman doesn't appear again until the Scouring of the Shire at the end of the book (a fairly lengthy sequence that was never shot for the film where the hobbits return and find that that Shire has been overthrown). He is a mysterious figure hanging out at Bag End (Frodo's old house). The local hobbits have taken to calling him "Sharkey". Anyway, he was supposed to be there when the Hobbits returned to Bag End, and I can't remember exactly the details of what happened, but I believe they killed him.
The movie never even made a single reference to the character of Saruman. My only complaint.

oh they talked about him for like five seconds. but gandalf was like..."he has no more power here" but they didn't explain how gandalf casted him down and left him to his ruin. and then the scene where wormtongue throws down the palantir and saruman is pissed.
that woulda been funny.

The scouring of the shire was not even filmed...so it wont be in the extended edition dvd either.

A movie has to end with a bang, and then have a short falling out, not half the movie like in the book, where half of it is tying up loose ends and all that other stuff.
EDIT: I'm on a fucking posting roll. Go me.
amazing movie, i thought the end was dragged on a little too long though. i know thats how the book is but they kept making you think it was over and then it would go on for another 10 minutes.

eh, they had to finish it. i was really nervous because i thought they were going to end it without frodo leaving middle earth.
which would have just been wrong.

Im pretty sad that its all over now. Im pretty sure there wont ever be another movie or story like this ever told again in my lifetime. Tolkien was a total genius to ever come up with the whole world of Middle Earth and these stories...and Peter Jackson did an amazing job of capturing it on film.

Tolkien is a fucking genius. I have ever inch of respect possible for that guy.

Dammit! That bastard! He didn't even carry it the whole time! Well maybe he did before Frodo got a hold of it. But we all know who really deserved to toss that son of a bitch into the fire.......along with Golem........
I plan on seeing that movie....

which would have just been wrong. When Frodo tossed Gollum over that precipice early in the film (during the Shelob sequence) I was afraid of the possibility that Jackson had royally screwed up the trilogy by killing off Gollum too early and not allowing him to participate in the climax. But once he reappeared right outside Mt. Doom, I breathed a sigh of relief and reaffirmed my faith in the man as a director.
It's an amazing film and an amazing trilogy, but is far from being the best movie ever.
I think The Return Of The King helps the series surpass Star Wars.

Anyways, not seeing this movie is like a crime.
Those who don't see it, need to be shot. Those who see another movie instead of it, need to be shot multiple times.
Whatever.
