We need more people to claim their team.
mikeyxxcore
04/03/08, 11:49 AM
I dont think I've seen a KC or Houston fan since I've been posting in the football threads, so someone might have to take another team/pick if no one steps up for a team.

Killadelphia
04/03/08, 01:18 PM
Alright, I've updated the list. Claim your team if you haven't. Matt, I put us both down for Philly.
Quite a few people will likely have 2 teams.
SgtSmegma
04/03/08, 01:21 PM
Can I usurp the Giants?
Killadelphia
04/03/08, 01:25 PM
what the fuck does usurp mean?

04/03/08, 01:34 PM

are we waiting to start until we have all the teams covered?
Killadelphia
04/03/08, 05:15 PM
I think we need at least the top 10 filled. I'm sure some people may come by tonight and sign up. Also, I've made a spread sheet in excel to keep track of the picks if anyone wants it when we're done.
MyWorldEntire
04/03/08, 05:15 PM
Since someone already has the Bears, I'll take the Lions.
williek311

Oh sweet I got the browns on lock. But so I can actually participate I'll take the Broncos if nobody else has them. And when do we plan on doing this?
Killadelphia
04/03/08, 06:03 PM
Once we get all the teams started, it'll just be on an ongoing thing until the draft. We'll see how far we get.

04/03/08, 09:41 PM
I hate the NFL and the Lions, so if I play along can I take like 4 WR's with my first 4 picks or would I have to play it straight up and actually attempt to improve the key areas like OL, DL, LB, DB, QB, RB, TE, Head Coach, GM, Owner, and City?
livethesounds
04/03/08, 09:55 PM

04/04/08, 09:30 AM
Justin, will you post details on exactly how this is going to work?
LeftWideOpen
04/04/08, 11:36 AM
yeah consider me 100% opposed to the trades thing .. that will make this entirely unrealistic, since 1st round trades are unpredictable.
xbrokendownx

yea i would say no trades either

airik625
04/04/08, 12:15 PM
trades would be way too complicated.
Killadelphia
04/04/08, 01:02 PM
Rules
1 - No trades.
2 - First, Brandon will pick and then etc.
3 - Pick to them teams needs, do not pick a player they do not need. Let's try to make this as realistic as possible. Once we get through the first round I will post the 2nd round, etc.
4 - When you make your pick do it like this:
Pick # - team name - player now the next pick is on the clock.
Why you made that choice.
Pick # - team name is now on the clock, to let the next person know it is their turn. If it looks like the designated person is failing to pick for his team, we'll will look at suggestions and vote on that pick.
I will post the picks in the first post and I also have an excel spreadsheet set up for it.
mikeyxxcore
04/04/08, 01:05 PM

04/04/08, 01:05 PM
so can i start it up now?
LeftWideOpen
04/04/08, 01:18 PM
we should maybe make the picks it its own thread, for organization purposes?
especially if people dont pick, it could get sloppy in here. leave the discussion, in those hopefully rare cases, here and have the picks as its own ongoing thread? that way its clear and focused and you wont have people picking guys who've already gone.
and maybe setup a time limit (6 hours, 12 hours, etc.) for picks so that theres some structure.
Killadelphia
04/04/08, 01:18 PM
Alright...we need the Colts and Texans. I put Mike down for the Lions, if he doesn't take them synaddict, you can have them as well as the Falcons, which you already have.
I'll take the Niners if no one else wants them.

Dorsey to Oakland is definitely still a possibility since Kelly can move to DE, where they are weak. With both Long's off the board, I can certainly see this pick happening.

04/05/08, 11:32 AM
the jets are unlikely to be in this position, having both gholston and mcfadden available at #6. in fact i think neither will be available and they'll look toward either mckelvin or roberts-cromartie to give them a 2nd top cb.
Killadelphia
04/05/08, 11:35 AM
1 or the other will be there at 6. Chiefs are almost definitely picking a tackle.
LeftWideOpen
04/05/08, 11:52 AM
Gholston would be the ideal pick for most Pats fans ... but if McFadden is somehow still on the board, I think the team would go w/ him in a heartbeat. I don't think they are entirely sold on Maroney as an every-down back.
And I wouldnt rule out Glenn Dorsey to the Pats, either, if hes on the board. Belichick has seemed to be much more open to the 4-3 lately and having Dorsey, Wilfork, Warren, Seymour as the D-Line would be dominant.
Killadelphia
04/05/08, 02:36 PM

nice call on Cromartie. Him and McKelvin are virtually a toss up, IMO.
A lot of mocks have the Pats taking one of them, but I don't see it happening. They wouldnt shell out money to keep Samuel, so why would they turn around and pay an unproven kid Top 10 money? Plus, the CB position is incredibly deep this year and the Pats have been scheduling visits w/ 2nd and 3rd round projected players to this point.
LeftWideOpen

Yeah I think the Pats might take him but I'm hoping we get him or McKelvin. I hope Clady isn't taken when we pick, we might grab him. JO is almost definately going to retire and the CB situation can be addressed in the 2nd round.

I think it's solid. Between that or Malcolm Kelly, the Bills absolutely need a WR that is capable of getting things done. Kelly has been too mysterious in regards to his injuries, and I don't think it's the best idea for the Bills to take such a chance on somebody who might just end up as damaged goods.

sounds good, as long as there are exceptions for overnight stuff. If someone picks at 2 AM, it's a lot to ask of someone to post by 8 AM. I'd say in those cases, the 10 hour limit still works.
Killadelphia
04/06/08, 06:27 PM
Yeah, definitely exceptions overnight. Between the hours of 9am-1am, the 6 hours will count. So say the person before you picks at 10 pm. You have until 12 pm the next day. If you don't think you can make it PM your votes to myself and one other regular.
Obviously people can draft over the night, but the 6 hour deadline would not start until 9am.

Since it's a mock draft and no trades that's probably the best pick for the Lions. In reality, though, it's inconsequential. Dude will suck when 4 D-Lineman are dropping him for 4 yard losses because the O-Line is quite possibly the worst in football.

I think there would have been a few trades already. Specifically Buffalo and Philly. Lito Sheppard and the #19 for the #11 and a late round pick is quite possible.
Buffalo could draft any of those fringe top 20 WRs.

I honestly was considering drafting Malcolm Kelly, but I couldn't think of any possible reason for picking. Maybe the Lions could just replace their offensive lineman and running backs with wide receivers, they probably wouldn't do much worse.

what, or who, would Philly gain from moving up to #11? Doesnt seem to me like they have any glaring weakness that would be filled at #11.
Rivers, maybe. Thats about all I could see that makes sense considering they give up Sheppard.

OT. They'd nab Williams or Otah. HUGE Hole considering both Thomas and Runyan are UFAs after this season. They could also pick Rodgers-Cromartie if he is available.

Eagles are already really young at linebacker already and they have a bad history of picking first round linebackers.
They really need help at DE. Defensive pressure from the line is going to be huge in a team looking to create turnovers. Rivers is not very good in the running game and they're linebackers did well last year. I really think Stewart Bradley could be a stud at middle linebacker this year.
Their list of needs goes like this OT, DE, S, Offensive Playmaker, LB. Depending on what happens with Sheppard, throw corner in there.

I, as a Tampa follower, would be much happier in seeing Brohm there than Gradkowski, McCown, Simms or even Griese.
You've got to plan for the future and let's face it....I wouldn't say the future for any of the 5 QB's on the roster is very bright right now, since Griese is 33? Garcia is 37 or 38 and the others well....they're who they are. Brohm would need some time to learn the system, and Garcia has been a West Coast master in both SF and TB.
I really think that there will still be a quality WR available in the 2nd round

yeah you have to go back to 1997 and Chris Naeole for a Top 10 G pick. John Rienstra in 1986, before that.
Since 2000, heres all the G's picked in the 1st round:
2007 - 29th: Ben Grubbs, Baltimore
2006 - 23rd: Davin Joseph, Tampa
2005 - 32nd: Logan Mankins, Pats
2004 - 19th: Vernon Carey, Miami
2002 - 30th: Kendall Simmons, Pitt
2001 - 17th: Steve Hutchinson, Seattle
The Bears are the only team who could really use a G, before the Steelers, and I doubt they take him when they also need an OT and at least 1 of Clady, Otah and Williams likely to be available.

everything I've read about Albert is that his pass-blocking is his strength? I've seen Virginia play many times, either in person or on television, so I wish I could say that I witnessed this ... but I rarely pay attention to OG's, haha.
and he could certainly be moved to OT for a team that needs one, but I'd think Pittsburgh would use him at OG to replace Faneca (at least right away). I dont think he could step right in at the tackle position and start for a team. He'll need some practice.

I don't know, this is what the Eagles mock draft guy had to say,
19. Eagles: Branden Albert, G/T, Virginia
The Eagles have many areas of need. They could consider Mike Jenkins, a skilled cover corner with return skills, or safety Kenny Phillips, who I believe is a second-round pick. I also see Auburn DT Pat Sims being able to provide some girth in the middle as a rotation guy since they lack depth in the interior defensive line.
After deep thought, I’ve settled the offensive line. The unit leaked – a lot - in ’07 and age is creeping up big time on the tackles. When I was evaluating D’Brickashaw Ferguson two years ago, Albert – who lined up next to him at left guard – kept jumping out at me. He was, as a freshman, the most impressive lineman on the field.
At Virginia, Albert was a full-time guard who saw spot duty at left tackle. Many NFL teams apparently are treating him as a left tackle in their evaluations, and I admire his athleticism. But he will need work on his pass blocking to become a trustworthy blindside protector. He can get knocked back on his heels because he tends to be too upright in his stance. A former basketball player that came to football late, Albert has prototypical left-tackle size (6-7, 315). I believe he can even play on the right side. He offers the Eagles options on a line that figures to undergo a major transformation in the next year or two.
I believe Shawn Andrews should stay at right guard (instead of RT, which he played in college). I know Runyan’s clock is ticking louder than ever, but Andrews has become a Pro Bowl fixture, and I would not mess with that. The problem when assessing the future of the line is that Winston Justice did little in game action to convince me he’s ready to become a starter. Maybe down the road, but not in ’08. The center and left guard positions probably will be tweaked in the next couple of years – if not sooner. Insert Albert next to Thomas and you have a strong left side to protect the quarterback.
The athletic Albert is a potentially great NFL pulling guard. He’ll get downfield and help out. At No. 19 he carries excellent value as the top guard in the draft with the possibility he could be groomed to take over the more valuable left tackle position.

hence why they need to draft a tackle hahah. The Eagles had quite a few injuries coming into that game and Andy Reid was an idiot for not giving Justice protection in his first game ever. But you'd expect a 2nd round pick to be able to hold his own. He has practiced at both sides, but he is more suited for Runyan's replacement.
