Read the book. Last semester, I had a D in my international relations class, because I never read the book, and expected to do well off just sitting in class, zoning out. I did the reading i was supposed to do for the final, and took my D to a B. So, if only I would have done the reading all along, I probably would have easily aced the class.

obviously

I would suggest writing stuff down. you remember it a lot easier, especially if you can read your handwriting which I can't

For my science classes I take notes as I read the book, draw diagrams, paraphrase general concepts. Helps for studying for midterms/finals so I can just look over my own notes and not have to read the textbook again.

For English classes, I read the book and then sparknote it to see if there was anything I missed.

I go to all of the office hours, lectures, get extra help from TA's and do most of the homework and still manage to fail the chem exams leading to a D in the class. I'm pissed off and will be of no use in this thread.

I'm a 3rd year engineering student and still can't/don't manage my time or study efficiently...go figure.
