I think he is one of the most over-rated drummers of all time. A few years ago i thought he was good, and i'm sure he was. The problem is, he never improved, where as everyone else did.

what are you talking about, have you ever even seen him perform? hes pretty crazy, and more original than most drummers. he comes up with some nice beats, why do you think hes all over the place

Travis is by far the best Punk drummer in the world. He might be the best drummer in history besides Buddy Rich or Jimmy Chamberlin.

i'll agree with him being the best punk drummer, but he still has a lot to compete with for an all time spot. I personally think Chad Smith is about 50 times better than travis.

What I like about travis is ya he's fucking amazing but he also expands his horizons and stuff...he plays drum beats for rap and can probably dominate any type of rock...that's really respectable and just pure talent and skill.

Step 1: Learn drums
Step 2: Try to play travis' lines, perfectly.
Step 3: Shut up after figuring out that he kicks your ass at drumming, and pretty much everyone else's.

Seriously, have you seen this dude live?

and travis is not overrated. hes rated just right; amazing.

DonnieDarko

I have seen him live, and i've heard most of all the shit he's done, it's not terrible, but it's over-rated, the guy has no creativity like are you people serious?

The same drum roll for every song on the box car album, he's not all over the place, i could name 10 drummers(well not their names it's a shame drummers don't get any recognition)

1. Mars voltas drummer

2. a static lullabys old drummer

3. saosins drummer

4. Neal pert from rush

please seriously listen to what some of these drummers and other insane drummers are doing, then go back and listen to basic mcgee, otherwise known as travis, he's using beats that have been used for the better part of 30 years...nothing new.

have you ever heard a drum line? i know a few people in one, and they are way better on the snare than travis will ever be.

as i said earlier, yes 3 years ago travis rocked because he was doing cool things, now he's just doing the same shit as then, maybe a little cleaner, where as other people are going insane.

Think about it, some drummers you hear, arn't even playing a Beat, they're just going insane, and still somehow keeping a beat, plus a drummer can't do much when the band is only playing 4/4 songs.

richter915
12/25/03, 12:28 PM
I think there are some heavy metal drummers who deserve a lot more respect than travis...like...joey jordison (?) from slipknot...and the drummer from Dimmu Borgir...fucking insane...what about the drummer from from autumn to ashes...he seems great.

Once on The David Letterman (however you spell it...) Show, they had like a thing where they had all these famous drummers play Travis, the 311 drummer (who is quit good, listen to all his stuff), a few like famous (professional/or in a famous drum line; one of those things) drum line people and some other famous drummers from bands (can't remember it was a while ago, I think its on Kazaa though), form like a drum line and play together and then each person got there own solo, and from what I saw the professional drum line people where the best, but no one did bad. Its kind of hard though to say any drummer is better then another, because drummers play beats to the songs there band write, so its hard to say the Senses Fail drummer is def. better then Travis when you haven't heard them try to play the same stuff. In no way though am I saying Travis sucks, in fact I think he kicks much ass, but yes theres better out there.

Letter Twelve and Adelline (goes through like 8 sticks a song....more like 2) drummers are both insane, but (I don't think) none of ya'll have seen them (I don't think atleast) so its hard to say there insane without anyone hearing or seeing them either.

Mark and Tom might play in 4/4, but listen to travis's beats. Alot of them are in 6/8 or 1/2. Im not saying he is playing the most complex stuff in the world, but he is damn damn damn good. Best drummer in punk music, easily. And whoever said that stuff about metal drummers... most of them use double kick pedals, which, in my opinion is a cop out. Joey from Slipknot is good, but your average metal band drummer is nothing special at all.

double kick pedals = double bass pedals? I'm not too good with instrument terminology. And I thought many punk drummers, including travis barker, used double bass pedals...guess I was wrong. I did hear from friends that it's quite hard to be master double bass pedals so that deserves respect...if that statement is valid.

13th hour
12/25/03, 10:04 PM
Im a bass player that cant play the drums worth shit... I dont know what the damn pedals are called. heh. But no, I was just talking to the drummer in my band, and I asked him if double pedals was hard, and he said no, anyone can do it. He also says Travis doesnt play doubles.
"The only thing hard about double bass pedals is that you cant have a foot on the high hat pedal. But thats no big deal because theyre right next to each other, and most metal drummers dont play high hat much anyway."

Best fucking drummer IMO. I saw him live and his solo was amazing. He was lifted in the air and then fliped upside down all while playing without messing up once. It was somthing to see.

honestly, i have no buisness posting on this subject (cuz im no huge authority on drummers) but though travis is a great drummer, theres no way hes the best drummer out there. Those drumming mags. that give out all the awards arent gonna put some drummer thats not ridiculously famous on the cover, they want someone who everyones heard of. So though travis is awesome, and Blink was one of the bands that "originally" got me into punk music all together, hes not the best in the world.

I think Dave Grohls done some awesome shit on the drums....but hes not the best.

Milonater
12/26/03, 10:19 AM
With all due respect, if you think travis lacks in creativity you need your balls stuck into a vice clamp. Seriously, do you even PLAY drums?

I have to give it up for Travis, but he's personally not my favorite drummer... I'd go with Mike Portnoy or Joey Jordison...

Travis has a really diverse way of playing and I respect that..

now let me be honest, i really dont like pop-punk or blink very much at all. but i will say that travis barker is pry the best drummer of our generation. pry the second greatest of all time.

if only he wasnt such a douchbag.

DonnieDarko

I don't even own a drum set, yet i can still play the entire boxcar c.d? what does that say?

He has no creativity, those rolls you call creativity have been used for 80 years in drum lines.

though travis is extremly good, he is no where near the top of our generation, defiently not of all time. yes, he is creative and extremly good, but not up there. take mike portony of dream theater for example, he is amazing . someone like him is best of our generation. listen to many different kinds of music and you will see so many drummers better than travis. ive been playing drums for 7 years and i can play anything he plays (yes even most of his "solo" stuff), plus i can think of pleanty of things just as creative, if not much more creative. i'm not saying i'm better than him, but i'm just saying, if a 16 year old can play his stuff with easy, there is no way he's the best of our time, cause i know pleanty of people much better than me.

fuck dude listen to the transplants. those guys kick ass and travis plays some pretty tight beats. he can play rap or punk or whatever is thrown his way and if you think he has no creativity then youre insane. just listen to that cd because some of the stuff he does is amazing on that album. im not saying he is the best out there but he is sure damn close.

I think Travis is an awesome drummer, like someone said earlier he can play most things thrown his way. Not only that he plays with style too, he inspired me to play drums and girl drummers are a pretty rare thing!. Another great punk drummer is Adam Carson of A.F.I, Travis is still my fav though.:D

Travis Barker is a Hard-Working drummer.... He always strives to be the best at all costs. He's not just a one-sided player either. He can play any style and well I might add. There are a lot of other drummers out there who are just as good who may not be credited as well as he is. But that's the media for you... He is very very good... If you say he is not then that shows that you truly know nothing about music. Drumming is an art... just as playing any musical instrument.

ah who cares... joey cheats to make himself sound better. he has 4 double bass heads instead of the usual for a double bass. its to make him sound like hes playing faster. hes not as good of a drummer as he is proclaimed to be.

Travis isn't overrated. Regardless of the band he's playing in, the man is an incredible drummer. Not the best, but still damn good.

Here are my top five of all time:

1. John Bonham (Led Zeppelin)
2. Mitch Mitchell (Hendrix)
3. Keith Moon (The Who)
4. Stuart Copeland (The Police)
5. Ron Wood (Rolling Stones)
