Compare. Contrast. Discuss. Hopefully there will be more discussion than my other thread, DCFC - Transatlanticism vs. Bright Eyes - Lifted.

Give Up. This is no contest at all. Give Up blows Digital Ash out of the water in every conceivable way.

Give Up >>>> Digital Ash. Digital Ash was a pretty significant disappointment. I very rarely listen to it, and haven't since the first two weeks when my copy of Wide Awake had yet to arrive. The lyrics are pretty bland for the most part. There are probably 3 songs I'd dub "keepers". The music leaves quite a bit to be desired for the most part. Also, I always found it weird that Jimmy T. did the programming did the programming for the first single, but no other songs on the album. Always felt like sort of a bait-and-switch. As for Give Up, the mood seems to work better. Less "serious". Not always in the mood for it, but I can still come back and enjoy it pretty much as a whole.

Give Up, without a doubt. Digital Ash is one of my least favorite Bright Eyes releases, not many of the songs stuck with me.

Though Give Up is amazing, i do think that Digital Ash should get a bit more credit. I believe that Bright Eyes had a pretty good take on a sound that previously didn't seem within their musical boundries. I enjoy it and still can listen to it whenever i pop it into the cd player. Give Up on the other hand was an excellent release that seemed to have years of thought behind it.

im gonna go against the grain here, its thought but i think i prefer digital ash, give up is good in its own right but it loses me at times, digital ash on the other hand can hold my attention from start to finish

The electronic approach isn't becoming to Bright Eyes at all. Give Up gets the nod but frankly, I don't enjoy that record either. Something about airy, peppy electronic music doesn't agree with me at all. Both fairly mediocre albums that I haven't listened to more than once or twice since their respective release dates.

Give Up, but what has the OP got with comparing Ben Gibbard & Conor Oberst?

Well. i think that they both are pretty big contributers to music since the late 90's 'til now. They are both great musicians that i think have a bit in common, so i think its interesting to see people's opinions on their albums, since they have a pretty balanced discography and strong music style that is, in my opinion, comparable.

It's the best Gibbard work, it's my favorite album to play in the summer.

I think Digital Ash is easier on the ears, but both are inconsisitent and probably the 2 worst in the catalogues of 2 great songwriters.

It's not Gibbard's best work, and what does it have to do with the Summer? It is cold and electronic lending itself to the winter, but you live in Vermont so you dont have a Summer anyways.

Give Up is one of Gibbard's best works.(not best)

plus it had Sleeping In, which crushes most of Digital Ash.

But Digital Ash has Easy/Lucky/Free, which crushes most of Give Up.
both have their strengths.
Digital Ash does have more faults in the end.

Easy/Lucky/Free alone is better than everything on Give Up.

It is too bad the poll is anonymous. I wanted to see who the two other fools like me are.
