Since we're on the subject, I'll post mine. The last five of mine are constantly changing. A lot of quality albums were released this year, so it's tough to narrow it down to ten.

10. The Shins - Chutes To Narrow
09. Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People
08. The Thermals - More Parts Per Million
07. Mars Volta - De-Loused In The Comatorium
06. Death Cab For Cutie - Transatlanticism
05. The Rapture - Echoes
04. Blood Brothers - Burn, Piano Island, Burn
03. White Stripes - Elephant
02. Radiohead - Hail To The Thief
01. Cursive - The Ugly Organ

Let's make this the official top ten of the year thread.

How couldn't it be #1? It's an amazing record, just like every other AFI record from "Very Proud of Ya" to "Sing the Sorrow." Plus, the record finally got this amazing band where they deserved to be: in the mainstream. :)

Thursday's new album is amazing. AFI's is also amazing. Overall I'd say the records are pretty close to being the same, yet, AFI's lyrical content and fantastic guitar playing seems to boost them over-the-top. Thursday also has great lyrical content, but music isn't all about the lyrics either, instrumentals play a big part in the equation as well. Thursday doesn't really have any material on "War All the Time" that focuses on anything guitar solos or any fancy instrumentals. If you listen to almost any song on "Sing the Sorrow" it's easy to see that Jade Puget is an amazing guitar player. "Death of Seasons" is one of the best tracks on "Sing the Sorrow" simply because of his awesome skills. Thursday is after all opening for AFI on AFI's tour in March, putting them in the order I believe to be correct: #1 AFI #2. :)

BuriedAlive

ya spitalfield's album was awesome. it was probably the most overlooked album of the year.. yet your number 2 (brand new) was easily one of the most overrated (along with thrice) but i do like your number 1!

First of all, I don't really get how Blink 182 could make a "best of 03 list." If anything, the band gives a band name to punk. Blink 182, for a pop band, isn't all that bad, but I'm still confused on how they could be on a best of 03 list. Anyway, Alkaline Trio's "Good Mourning" is definitly one of the year's best, and Strike Anywhere's new album definitly deserves the "honorable mention." Overall, nice list, very different from everyone else's. :)

I totally agree with you again about Brand New. I'm never sure if I really like them or not (that's why we burn cds sometimes and not buy em right?)

Glasseater's an awesome band from Florida. Everyone into punk totally needs to have "Everything is Beautiful When You Don't Look Down." They're great live to, I recommend that everyone should check them out.

Here's two upcoming Glasseater dates in Florida:

1-17-2004 Miami, FL The Alley ?
1-18-2004 Melbourne, FL Carver Park Community Center

Don't know if they're near you, but thought you'd like to see them.

This is the first list that I agree with almost every single on of the bands posted. Excellence choices.

Also, i really like that you listed AFI first on that list, whether it was in random order or best of order, it still makes me smile. :D
