View Full Version : Yellowcard

I noticed on the list "Best of 2004: Absolute Punk" that Yellowcard is mentioned numerous times. Okay, well they are very over-rated. I enjoy some of their songs, I purchased the CD before the single "Way Away" was released. But the rest of the album isn't anything special. Also it seems on many of the songs that each line rhymes. Example: "Theres a place off Ocean Avenue, where I use to sit and talk with YOU". Those lyrics are just..annoying. But, I have to say I do like the chorus in the song "Ocean Avenue".

Also making the album "Ocean Avenue" in your list number two. Which was higher than Thrice and Thursday?!..Huh? It's alright though everyone is going to disagree on some points. Good work though.

Yeah I should have posted this in the thread under the "Best of 2004", but..eh? What are you going to do now.

Yeah I really hope Yellowcard does not go down hill. Selling out really sucks. I went to 2 of their shows when they first released One For The Kids after I had mistakingly downloaded "October Nights" and crapped my pants because it was the band I had been looking for. Then and now they still do put on a great live show though. Great guys and they do deserve a lot of the respect they are getting. And a violin player, c'mon. That was just NOT COOL until they came a long.

O yes, and anyone who says they are a Yellowcard fan, and does not own "One For The Kids" (including Sure Shot, their first semi-hit song) is just not. It's my favorite and I think it's definately the one that got their talent out into the world.

I liked the new cd, but it will never, and no other Yellowcard album will surpass One for the Kids. I also disagree with it getting a higher placing than Thursday and Thrice. Madness!

Totally agreed. Thrice and Thursday are 10 X better than Yellowcard. :)

This band is the opposite of anything good or original.

it's near impossible to be original anymore in the world of music and it's only gonna get worse as time continues on. I hate when people say "they sound like all the other bands..." NO SHIT... bands of the same Genre do sound alike.... It's hard to be in a band and not get negative critism these days 'cause there's sooo much out there and you are bound to use the same chord progressions as another artist has at some point in time... music has endless options yet there are some areas that will be re-encountered... People just need to think more deep before they give their pointless 2 cents...

Everyone says Yellowcard is overrated, but I don't really think so at all. They're a good, solid band, nothing really special but good.
What overrated music means is that bands not as good as everyone says they are. Yellowcard is good, just like people say. But I never hear anyone saying they're the best, and they aren't.

I don't think Yellowcard is overrated.
They had a good hit with "Way Away", but there are other really good songs on their new album.
"Back Home"
"Empty Apartment"
"One Year, Six Months"
"Believe" - This is a bad ass song, I like it
and "View From Heaven"

It's not the best thing ever recorded, but there are some good songs on there.

You can't really call anyone a 'sell out' unless it's totally obvious. Bands/Artists, they just can't play the same thing over and over again, it gets boring, they have to evolve. Just because the new song a band writes is liked by some trendy punk doesn't mean they sold out.
If you like it, then you like it, no matter if anyone else thinks the band sold out.

It's just my two cents...don't shoot the messenger.

10 bucks they'll go mainstream, their on the same road New Found Glory was on. Even though NFG is hardly mainstream anymore, I still think Yellowcard will end up on MTV, not that I care, just pointing it out.

Any takers?

Any takers? Who cares? As long as they're a real band with real humble beginnings like NFG (unlike Simple Plan or Good Charlotte).

In the poppy-punk genre, yellowcard is the most overhyped and overrated band right now(thanks in large part to this website constant shill). Perhaps it would be different if some people stopped believing they are different because they have a gimmick violin but i don't know.

It will be interesting when this trend dies down to see if they're even still around.

oh thats the story behind that. haha. this post and many like it is probably why you were voted the most annoying... but i think your very logical.

yellowcard is incredibly over-rated. Their terrible, i mean really if you wanted to start a band that sounded just like them you could find people that have played guitar/drums whatever for a year and you could write music just as good as yellowcard. Im Not Joking. Try It.

As others have said, Yellowcard is just like every other generic pop-punk (I thought pop-punk was the Descendents, foolish me) band, the only difference is that they have a gimmick, a violin. No one will care about this band in a few years, write it down.

just how no one cares about NFG?

oh wait. people do care about NFG. and they've been around forr "a few years". and ... they're a pop punk band. but yeah, I'm sure other people used to say these kind of things about them as well a few years ago, just like you did now about Yellowcard. but yeah... seriously... why does everyone keep saying this about bands like Yellowcard? I don't get it. really. and please don't say "because its true".... because I sure as hell will care Yellowcard "in a few years".... just like other fans who love the band will.

Honestly I think Yellowcard is pretty much average. They arent horrible, but they arent overly great. And I think anyone could have predicted that Ocean Avenue was going to be a big hit on MTV. wtf they were up to number 2 on TRL? I just dont think there is anything too special about them. But thats just my opinion.

To be honest i'm suprised they're doing so well on MTV and all the other music stations. The songs that have hit mainstream are shitty songs...

I like YellowCard....not the greatest band ever, but they get to me...and yeah TRL, hmmmmm...ocean avenue is all over MTV now which sucks, and there are better songs on the CD....but whatever I guess.
