Lately it has come to my attention that bands are saying
"this is our first album written sober it is very exciting for us"
and then you have people like scott weiland who became sober
then in my opinion started sucking horribley

do you believe that writing sober for a record is just and excuse for a genre change
or do you actually believe that they mean they are writing sober

I think the argument can be concluded with:

Good musicians can make good music on drugs.
Good musicians can make good music sober.

Bad musicians can't make good music either way.

A lot of good records were made by people who did a lot of drugs, alcohol or were very depressed.

Agreed. It shouldn't matter what state of mind the person was in when they made it, it's the final product that matters.

Who cares? The end result is the only thing you should concern yourself with.
