i drove back to the apartment this morning (in the game) and then i had to come to the final i'm currently sitting in now.


but i can tell you right now, i don't like how they changed the driving buttons to the double shoulders.

Yeah, I saw that there was a standard and classic control setting, I didn't have time to check the classic out but hopefully it reverts back to the old controller style, it was simpler to use

yea i had to switch to classic. you get the hang of it and the minor, minor tweaks in a few minutes

The running is shit, the cover system is half assed, aside from the story and character interaction it isn't that big a leap forward in terms of gameplay.

That said it's better than most other games.

It's piss poor when compared with Gears of War and other third person games. I know it's not a shooter but it's still not really thought through. For instance you can't scroll across different targets. I think it's time for the lock-on system to go too.
I think there is a way to change that (locking of targets).

Yeah but the game is obviously set up for lock on. You're making things way harder by free aiming because the game intends you to lock on.

Lock on is pretty outdated.



It's really dull and the city is so huge it takes forever to find people after the game has got underway because they spread out across the entire city. At which point it's basically like single player without the missions. Moreover the shooting system is not at all suited to human vs human combat.
When ever I played online, they never used the whole city. Usually limited to half of a large island or all of a small one. The shooting system is alright online wise. If you have a pistol, your fucked though. Pistol sucks online. It does nothing.

I played for 30 minutes or so (in other words I was drunk, so I just drove around) a few days ago on my friend's Xbox since he had the leak....and this game better come out on PC before I leave the country this September. I know that won't happen though...sigh. I crashed a dump truck into a telephone booth while someone was using it (Matrix style) and the explosion of blood was just...glorious. Sigh again.

Side note: I absolutely abhor using thumbsticks to aim, so locking on/auto-aim is usually the only way I can kill people on console shooters.

I had a pretty seamless experience with matchmaking. Hopefully it is a server issue that can be resolved quickly.

Well it's online play is essentially a shooter within the context of the city. The city element adds nothing to the multiplayer because they don't contribute to the contact between humans, they just exist as normal which could be done in single player.

So looking at the actually contact and fighting between humans it's really poor. Like I said, the auto aim sucks for this kind of thing and humans are spread way too thin across the city resulting in most of the game being a tedious search for other players.
I do see what you are saying. You could just block off other parts of the city though and keep it contained.

The only thing I dislike about this game is the need to tap the A button to sprint. Couldn't I just run/jog by holding the left analog and sprint by holding A? It seems a little strange.
I remember having a few graphical grievances when I first started playing, but it's really hard to spot once you're focusing on playing other than trying to find things to counter IGN's review.
And going in cover is good, could be better if:
-I could run/move faster than a walk when I'm cover
-It didn't point me in a direction as soon as I get to the end of the wall. Just leave me where my crosshair is pointed!

Overall, though, I'm loving this game. What my disappointments so far are extremely minimal.
By the way, lunchforthesky, if you're worried about locking on in multiplayer, you can change that option if you're host.
Multiplayer is fun, but Deathmatch really isn't. If you do the mission based ones, like Cops n' Crooks, or the co-op multiplayer matches, multiplayer is much more fun.

There's so much more to this game it doesn't have to have THE BEST or on par with the best cover system in order to be a great game. Those two are the best shooters there are, and their cover systems and targeting HAVE to be great or they're not what they are. This game is different.

And i agree with most on the mulitplayer. its kind of fun, but it gets old quick and the city is just so big that i tried hiding for a couple of minutes and someone already won because everyone was concentrated in one area besides me. it's kind of pointless honestly, but still entertaining for a while.

Back to GTA IV honestly I didn't get to play it too much, however I'm going to a bar after work & will play when I get home. The damage I can do buzzed playing GTA IV is making me vote 10.

By the way, GoW had no story. The developers even stated that. The story was 4 dudes planting a bomb in a cave. It's a fucking awesome game though. I still love the multiplayer.
And as far as detail goes...I think GoW and GTA have roughly the same amount of detail.
The only difference is the art design. GTA is a city, and although I haven't gotten to the part that is Manhattan yet, I'm expecting the words of reviewers to be truthful in saying it's the most detailed city ever created in a game. GoW was linear paths with an insane amount of model detail.
That's a difficult grudge match.
