erased all the mistakes
and drew a picture of you with a smile
i folded up the thin piece of paper
and slid it into an envelope
licked the inside to make sure it stuck
and sealed with a kiss for good luck
addressed it to you and
placed a stamp in the corner
then hid it in my drawer
covered it with more unsent letters
all signed but never delivered
i picked the phone up
and dialed the first six digits
of your number but got scared
so i closed my eyes and pressed the seventh
my palms were sweaty
i was losing grip of the handle
three rings in you answered
You said "Hello" and I replied
with a heavy breath and sigh
i hung up on you
for the third time today
waiting for this to happen
isn't getting anything done
but it's hard to call on the one you love
