you act like a band being classified as pop-punk is a bad thing. The Decendents are cool and they are pop-punk, same with Movielife...Taking Back Sunday in my eyes is pop-punk, as is Brand New. To the guy who started the thread, if you like pop-punk and you like Blink, I'd assume you'd like any band on Drive Thru.

For pop-punk, my definite preference is the Alkaline Trio. If you like pop-punk but want a darker edge to it, this is definitely a good palce to start.

Oh yeah, because we all know I put my heart and soul into trying to look cool on the internet. Haha, calm down you fucking knob..I was just trying to help the guy out.
Every band I listed has a poppy edge to them. And you know it. Every single band on that list, there is a possibility he may enjoy them. I even included bands with just the slightest bit of pop punk in them. Anything the guy may like.

Screeching Weasel, The Vandals, 88 Fingers Louie, The Exploding Hearts, The Faction, not pop-punk but definitely check out The Shins.
Also I don't see the point in repeating the same bands in every post.
Don Socrates

Good call on the Vandals. "Anarchy Burger", and the song about his idea for a movie still make me laugh everytime I hear them. If you want some really funny stuff, everyone should go download everything they can find by "The Dead Milkmen", right now.

Those are all pop-punk bands. At the least, they have some pop-punk influence. Out of the four you listed, I would only consider reclassifying The Used, but even they have some pop songs in their repertoire.

Some people are just too close minded to realize pop-punk stretches outside of bands like New Found Glory and Blink-182.

thursday really doesn't at all, they grew up in a indie/harcore background and that's the style they base their music on. the only reason they are ascociated with this "scene" is because they were signed to victory records.
but pop-punk? no

I didn't really say Thursday was a pop-punk band. Because, they aren't. Trust me, i'm well aware of that. Like I said many times before in this thread, I was just listing some bands that he may like. Anything that isn't too hardcore or anything like that. The kind of stuff he could probably get into.
I don't really like labelling bands at all.

Dude, you seem to be under the impression that pop-punk means "POPULAR" or something. All pop-punk refers to is subject matter of relationships and girls and love and heartbreak and stuff. A band can have a sound that's hardcore up the wazoo, but with relationship/girl subject matter, it's pop-punk.
That's my definition... debate away.

That's my definition... debate away. Pop-punk does not mean popular at all, like you said, Brenton. However, I think that just because the lyrics a band has are about relationships/girls doesn't mean they're pop-punk. Pop-punk is short for 'Poppy-Punk', if that sounds stupid or not, I don't care ... if it sounds fast, catchy, and 'poppy' it's pop-punk. There's no way to explain it, really.

I understand what you're getting at. And I kind of agree with you. But I don't believe the sound dictates "pop-punk" or "not", I just think it's usually a side-effect of the content. In other words, most pop-punk has a "pop-punk sound", but it doesn't HAVE to have that sound to be pop-punk. I believe that whether or not it's pop-punk is completely dictated by the lyrics. That's why I think of bands like Finch as pure, straight-up pop-punk even though their instruments are heavier and they include screaming that make most people think "hardcore".

I thought when songs focus more on heartbreaks they're considered emo. I haven't listened to much TBS or brand new, but, aren't they more emo than pop punk?

Dude, get over it, we're not homosexual. This is the internet. I have never met Brandon in real life, and online relationships do not work ... Brandon is my friend, we like to joke around. Is there something wrong? What, you're not part of the fun so you get your laugh by calling us gay ... what points out to you thinking this? I called you moronic because in most cases, when somebody tries to insult me with the term 'gay' or 'homosexual' I usually jump to that opinion. Hi, Thanks for the replies. I was looking for bands that are similar to Blink 182 and the Ataris. They are my favorites. I already have New found glory, Boxcar racer, Sum 41, Antifreeze, Jimmy Eat world. Among the ones that you listed, which of them are similar to blink and ataris? For bands like Blink 182 and the Ataris, I have three words: Drive Thru Records
For the dreaded "E" word, I suggest Sunny Day Real Estate, Get-Up Kids, Rilo Kiley, Bright Eyes, Dashboard, Brand New, etc. While none of these bands are straight-up emo (who the hell is?), they all have emo qualities.

I don't know why you people fight over what's pop-punk and what's not. In my opinion, the label "pop-punk" is just plain stupid, because isn't punk like everything that pop isn't? It just contradicts itself to me and it just doesn't make sense at all, but maybe that's just me you know, since I really hate that label "pop-punk".
but eh. continue debating.
