i really hope this comes together. he hasn't even come close with any movie released after anchorman and it seems like most of the characters he's created have been derivatives of the late great Ron Burgundy.

Knights of Columbus! This is kind of a big deal...
Actually, this is old news. They said awhile ago that they'd like to make Anchorman 2. I hope they make a good movie that doesn't ruin the first one. Can't let it go all Austin Powers. Although, Ferrell needs a solid after the terrible Semi-Pro.

I think this is one of the funniest comedy movies of our generation. So quotable, so many great actors/scenes/jokes.
Although, I'd say The 40 Year Old Virgin is a better comedy and Steve Carrell is probably one of the funniest, if not the funniest actor in movies right now and over the past few years.

IMO it was just way too over the top. I'm not a big John C. Reilly fan either and it seemed like it was a lot of his low-brow middle school comedy. There was nothing new there, it just over perpetuated stereotypes that films have already run into the ground. But that's just my opinion.

This is by far my favorite comedy EVER. I have never laughed out loud as much in my life as the first, and even the second and third times I saw this in theaters. Agreed with the comment that nothing Will Ferrell has done since this movie has come close. (Except Stranger Than Fiction, but that wasn't really in the comedy genre)
How would this affect the trilogy?

That is cool. I never knew about that. I was thinking Step Brothers would be the third, but probably not.
It has John C. Reily, and his name could be B.R. instead of R.B. Hmm

This is incredible news. Will Ferrell has not produced a move close to this caliber since Anchorman. Talladega Nights was Ok but I found it underwhelming. I thought Semi-Pro looked funny, but while there were humorous parts, there were terrible parts as well and the story stalled. If they can reunite the cast of Anchorman, how could a sequel not be great? I just hope this happens because I remember hearing Old School 2 was supposed to happen and then Will came out and said he wouldn't do it.

well if this happens, Carrell is back:
We brought you the news that Adam McKay and Will Ferrell wanted to make ANCHORMAN 2, a little while back, but that it was contingent on the rest of the cast agreeing to come back. Well today we have confirmation Steve Carell is up for it. Rejoice:
"Oh, absolutely... Yeah, in a second. I’ve heard some inklings as to what Adam McKay has in mind for a sequel, and it’s really funny." And perhaps best of all, he mentions that “Everybody’s a friend...That is one of the most fun things I ever did. I laughed until I cried, every day on that movie.”
I'm not lying when I say I already want to make love to this movie. Sweet love, like I would definitely take it out to a nice Italian restaurant, put on some Phil Collins in the car, and I'd wear cologne. I wouldn't even try to feel it up on the way home. What can I say, I'm a gentleman and my intentions are pure.

Also, there are two outcomes here. It's either A) Brilliant and a huge hit, and everything is good or B) Sucks in comparison and flops. Oh well. Euro is awful. And Vegas sucks. Christmas is a classic, but for the fact that Vacation is what you pulled is telling for the fact that there aren't many, if any.
Just saying. The reason why things like 40-Year-Old Virgin, Blazing Saddles, The Big Lewbowski, Coming to America, Spaceballs, Dr Strangelove, so on so forth, work is bc they're on there own never to be tainted.

I watched the original Austin Powers again the other day and realized that it is absolutely fucking awful.

They cut budget and Paramount still passed today. Thank God.
YES. This is great news.

I never saw an Austin Powers movie until I was 18, and it was one of the dumbest movies I'd ever seen.

Euro is awful. And Vegas sucks. Christmas is a classic, but for the fact that Vacation is what you pulled is telling for the fact that there aren't many, if any.
Just saying. The reason why things like 40-Year-Old Virgin, Blazing Saddles, The Big Lewbowski, Coming to America, Spaceballs, Dr Strangelove, so on so forth, work is bc they're on there own never to be tainted.
edit: I would have accepted Clerks 2 as a great comedy sequel.
Vegas is actually pretty good, and most people tend to like it a lot. This is all opinion vs. opinion here, man. At the end of the day, a good comedy sequel is possible. Rare, but possible.

I just have this mindset that if every actor and the director all wanted to do it, and they were all willing to lower their pay, how could they not be confident in the project? If Anchorman 2 was 10% as funny as the original was, it would STILL be hilarious.

The main problem I have with sequels to comedies is that it's always them trying to rehash jokes from the first one in a new way. I guess we won't know if Anchorman 2 would have been the same, but I perfectly content keeping it a stand alone movie.

"'Anchorman 2,' you'd have to really assert some kind of email hate campaign to Paramount picture because they've told us, quote unquote, 'We've run the numbers and it's not a good fit,'" Ferrell told an audience of journalists (via CinemaBlend (http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Will-Ferrell-Updates-On-Southern-Rivals-Step-Brothers-2-Zoolander-2-And-More-24461.html)).
The stop sign from Paramount means that an old school approach that Will Ferrell and Adam McKay had planned for the sequel will not be happening.
"We were going to do almost a reverse... almost like how the Marx brothers used to do - we were going to do a Broadway musical and then have a film come out after the stage show," Ferrell said, confirming earlier rumors. "Everyone we tell the idea loves it, except for the studio that owns the rights. Ball's in their courts, but they're being idiots."

If The Hangover 2 did almost $140 million in its opening weekend, I have no doubt that an Anchorman 2 couldn't do at least half of that. I don't think they would do the movie if they didn't have a script they thought would do justice to the first one, and I'm sure it would be able to recoup its budget easily.

Afraid it would ruin the original or do you hate all things good and holy?

Loved Anchorman, just feel like it's one of those flicks better served as a standalone.

definitely would be skeptical of this, but even if it sucked it wouldn't ruin the original for me. just like the horrific dumb and dumberer in no way affects my love of dumb and dumber.

A little different situation, seeing as Dumb and Dumberer didn't even use any of the same cast.
