is it just me or is the media doing it's best to ignore iraq?
i know every media outlet gives an update on attacks and that's about it.
what about stories on water and electricity and the rebuilding of the infrastucture,or why not interview some iraqi's and ask them what they think about what's going on?
anyway it seems to me we're not getting the full story, while we're getting britney spears and michael jackson and kobe bryant bullshit.

what does that have to do with what he said? that doesn't change the fact they aren't doing a good job of covering iraq does it?

Nope, not true at all. Most journalists are centrist. The minority that aren't centrist on social issues such as gay marriage are further left than the public, however, the minority that aren't centrist on economic issues are further right than the public. The idea that there's some sort of liberal media conspiracy that's misleading the public is ridiculous. The media bias idea might have had some merit 25 years ago, but these days it's just something for people like Coulter and O'Reilly to scream when the press prints something they don't agree with.

As for the coverage of Iraq, what is the viewing public more concerned with, whether electricity is restored to a small town, or the safety of US solidiers? The answer is obviously the latter.

actually it was posted after what "mwhpunk" said, not the first guy......and it really does play a big part in how the "war" is being covered.....

I find that a lot of stuff I hear on the news about the war is far more conservative than liberalistic.

I think the media is more capitalist than "left" or "right". Bad news sells. By focusing on the deaths of soldiers in Iraq, the media conglomerates make a few bucks from companies that advertise on their programs. The media will show whatever will keep the audience glued to the screen during commercials interuptions.
I completely disagree with any "liberal media conspiracy" talk or even a conservative conspiracy. In America, the power of the dollar will control everything in the corporate sector. I really don't think the presidents of NBC, CBS, or Time Warner give a crap about politics just so long as they can make a buck in the end.

the media is sensationalistic, more so than any particular bias. it may lean to the left simply becuase social stories and human interests tend to lead the headlines.

in what way are CNN and FOX News liberal? The only "Fair and Balanced" news i've seen has been on BBC.

okay which one of these was done by an iraqi group?
but at least there's something here, although these aren't the biggest news sources in the nation and they're a tad slanted.
anyway i know it was sad when kiko the killer whale died but it didn't deserve more coverage than a piece on the rebuilding of iraq.
i'd say no matter where your getting your news it's going to spun to fit someones agenda be it the liberals or the conservatives which sucks for me because i don't like most liberals because they are melodramatic and blow shit out of proportion and the conservatives bug the shit out of me because they aren't out to help the average guy and when they hear something they don't like they're pretty intolerant, anyway we're all hypocrites.

My problem with the media is the constant conflicting stories. For example, the other day I was trying to find out what I could on that woman passenger not allowed to board the plane in France. I turned on CNN, which is the channel I rely on most. They reported that the plane was on its way to the US being followed by US fighter jets due to an "abundance of caution. I then switched on Fox News where they made sure to stress that the plane was, in fact, alone and not being followed by any fighters.

I just wish they could get the facts straight.

Banme is right, they aren't going to cover the rebuilding because people don't care, and if you are reporting on something the viewing public doesn't care about, no body will watch. It does't matter if the media is liberal or conservative, they need ratings to survive, so they must report on what people will watch.

that is largley due to the fact that every news station needs to be first, and many times they don't get all the facts before they run with the story.

every news show is slanted to a certain political group in order to get advertising dollars from buisnesses trying to get buisness from whatever group.
disturbing\informing\enlightening facts, quotes, stories and viewpoints are not covered because it's not profitable to do so.
