Lots of people say bass is totally un-needed, one person even said in every genre bass is un-needed, I totally disagree with that...bass just tops everything off, how often do you see a band without a bassist? I mean yea there are a few occasions. I think bass is underrated

Ps. Sry for all the spelling errors...

When I'm at a stoplight in my car, I need to impress everyone by turning up my bass and cranking down the treble.

It's important to my cock getting it's thrust on.

Bass is pretty important...it gives the guitarists more leeway to play around with. That and some bass licks are just darn sick.

What kind of shitty music are your friends listening to that they don't hear bass?

If you've got a good pair of speakers, the bass is so obvious. If you took the bass out, you'd notice it. It would sound pretty flat and treble(y).

without bass the music sounds flat.

You can't have a band without a bass player so i'm guessing it's pretty important.

If your bassist doesn't play an important role, you're probably not making music that's very original or creative.

"It's just bass.. It's ONLY bass" - Fred Mascherino

I think bass often is an important element to a song. But it depends on the song structure. I mean, imagine Brand new's song "Sic transit gloria, glory fades" without bass. But on the other hand, there are some great songs out there who doesn't contain bass.

Death From Above 1979 and Lightning Bolt would say bass is fairly important.

Bass is important. It helps give the music it's pulse. The bass also gives the guitarist room to move around in, which is a plus in my book.

Bass is a necessity. For good music, that is.

I would rather listen to a band without a guitarist then a band with no bassist...

I've seen bands with a really good keyboardist pull off the no bass thing(The Doors did it)...but truthfully, I think that even the White Stripes would kick more ass with a bass player.

Agreed to a certain extent. When you have a bass player who knows what they're doing it can be amazing.

someone else might had said this, but....

bass seems like it could go either way until you hear it drop out and how thin and gross everything else sounds.

people seem to be forgeting Les Claypool...if u dont appreciate bass then go listen to any Primus record. Also more currently, the strokes and arctic monkeys use ALOT of bass in their songs. Take out the bass in their stuff and the songs wouldnt be that great.

Oh, byebye melody.

I think the bass is more expendable than rhythm guitars, but a good bassist can add so much more depth to the music than a bassist who just plays root notes.

The bass is the most important part of every song. Including being more important than the guitar and vocals by far. Actually to be honest the only instrument on albums that should be audible is the bass. Not to mention that the only instrument in all of history that's important is the bass.

When bass cuts out in a live show is a prime example of this.

I think it all depends on the type of music. Like for metal or hardcore you cant really hear it anyways because of all the other bashing sounds. But for punk or something I think it makes a difference.

Alesana has 3 guitarists and 0 basists btw just a fun fact
