I needed cash - so I took out 20 bucks from the atm.

It said I had 40 dollars left in my account. I felt like I was going to throw up. I thought I had at least 200 bucks left in there to last me until I go home. Now I'm all stressed out and I don't even want to drive to the library to study cause I wanna conserve the gas that I have left in the tank. I wonder how much they are going to charge me for going over my credit limit. - I tried calling the bank but no one is answering/I've been on hold forever. Darn - this is really bugging me. Anyone have any similar issues they would like to share

Link your savings account to your checking account so if you overdraw, you won't get penalized.

well apparently my 40 dollar balance is actually a negative balance - I'm way over my limit. Wow I'm an idiot. I gotta head over there and hopefully fix this. God I really feel like throwing up now.

Here is my tip... go in and argue and threaten to leave the bank.

Because here is a secret... personal bankers generally have to right to override any customer fees they want as a "customer service" without having to explain it to superiors beyond "they seemed pretty pissed off."

I thought the $80* that I got back was bad. Last semester I got so much more back, so this semester I though I'd at least bank $100. For two of them, I got back a dollar and change each, the other two brought the total up to $80, and the last two aren't on order.
*Which $50 of is already gone.

You can't give him anymore than that? Is the recording industry not paying you?

If this is your first overdraft, they will probably get rid of the fee. I accidently went $7 over one time (yeah, 7 measly dollars and they tried to charge me $40), went to the bank, and since it had never happened before, they got rid of the fee.

Meanwhile, I too have way less money in my account than I thought I did. And, it has to last me another few months. So, i'm fucked. Boo money and unavoidable expenses.

SO I went to the bank, and the woman told me if I had deposited money in the account by that day - I would be safe and I would not get charged. I deposited 100 dollars, so I was releived that everything would end up okay.

Fast forward to today, I checked the account online and even after my 100 dollar deposit, it added numerous overdraft charges - and apprently I'm now 86 dollars over the limit! ARGH I'm gonna head over there tomorrow and try to figure out what the heck that happened. I hate this.

You might want to consider switching banks, or just managing your money a little better.

Do you have online banking? I never use ATMs (I am stuck in the 1990s) but using them as a way to check your balance is the worst way to manage money.

Also, definitely cause a ruckus. The teller may hate you but those charges are ridiculous. And whoever told you that putting money in your account the same day was an idiot, it all depends on how fast everything is processed. Use that as a reason to get extra furious though.

My roommate takes out like 200 cash before rent every month because he knows he is going to overdraft. That would drive me crazy.

i keep a rough estimate, i don't go around blindly spending money. but yeah every couple of days i stop by an atm, just to get that exact amount.
