New Mixtape thread anyone?

Let's be honest. This forum has sucked lately. We need something to start up the discussion again.
I think a new mixtape thread could definitely help. Whose all for it?
I'm not sure if I'd be able to run it though,
This is just to get interest. If we do it, we'll make another thread for it.

sampling and review by other users as a way to find new music. we had three(?) series so far (not everyone got to make one each round) and they were a real hit. Even if you don't find your new favorite musician, you usually hear at least a few things you always meant to "check out" but never got around to.

as soon as i can get a new lap top & use the uni's free wifi, i'll be all over this haha. but until then...

this could be a good idea again, but i wouldn't make the "rules" so strict. as every other time it's only lasted a week or two unfortunately

I'd do it for sure. I still think that we should just set a time limit (relative to stretching) of about the length of an average album. So like 30 minutes? Sitting through an hour of someone else's music gets OLD. I'll be honest, I might just make an entirely noise one.

haha, I was joking. That's just what happened every other time its occurred. I'll just be making tracklistings in my head.

What makes you think this wouldn't happen again?

The problem with this, ever since I started this first one, is that people are far more interested in making their own mixtapes than reviewing other people's. Moreover people only check out mixtapes by people they either like or have similar tastes to, that is if they review any at all.

I'm not going to make one, but i'll try and review some.
Oh I'm sure it won't work properly, but I'm interested in hearing some new shit as well as passing along some stuff I've been digging. I'm not sure if there's anyway to conduct this that makes gives us better than let's say 50% efficiency, but it's something nice for a week or so.
Deadline for sign up is tonight. Currently we have 7 folks willing to participate. I might make a cut off of 8.

Make a mix, then zip or rar it, then upload that zip or rar to a filesharing website like http://www.sharebee.com (http://www.sharebee.com/)

But I'd wait until I make the next thread with all the rules, where I'll lay out how to reformat the ID3 tags and such, so everything's consistent.

30 minutes max total time. It can sometimes be arduous to listen to a whole 10 songs and review them.


As far as though who want to get a head start with your mix, here's what to do.

Make your mix. I make an MP3 copy of all the tracks in the mix, and then I change album to "Music Forum Mixtape June 2008 - [insert username here]". Change the tracklisting if you see fit. If you use iTunes, make sure the "part of a compilation" box is checked.
Then zip the folder and upload it.
