how difficult are they, and how is the workload?

I see the reasoning behind your need of summer classes with that grammar.

Well, I think it differs on what course you're taking, what kind of teacher you have, etc.

Last year, I took a math summer course and I was blessed with the teacher who was too lazy to grade homework, so she gave us all of the answers and didn't bother checking anything.

But then again, I didn't really learn anything, so I failed math the first semester and wasted a couple hundred dollars and three weeks of my summer.

Summer high school courses? No idea. Summer college courses ae stressful but manageable.

College summer courses are usually much easier, but a lot more work. Everything that you normally would learn in about 4 months gets compacted into about 4 weeks.
Right now I'm taking auditing 3 times a week for 2 hours each day. It's not bad at all.

6 week classes, 5 days a week, 2 and a half hours... not having fun this summer.

I've taken other classes that have been pretty chill though, it just depends on what you take. They may move fast, but I always find it more manageable than spring and fall. It's an easy way to knock off some classes.

depends. I took a 3 week psych class at a community college near my house...extremely easy.

I've been taking Brit. Lit. I for the past few weeks and so far it's extremely relaxed. If I'd have taken it during the fall or spring, it'd be a 100+ person lecture, but now I'm in a 13 person seminar. It's nice.

I just finished my math class. It was 4 hours a day M-TR for 3 weeks...I get to start a 5 hour bio class next week. Great summer I get to have. The only thing that sucked in my math class was that we had tests almost every other day. I just took my final this morning and I already forgot half of the stuff that was on it. haha
But I personally think taking summer classes are so much easier, especially if you take it at a community college vs. four year university.

The subjects themselves are cake. The workload is atrocious. It's comparable to reading War & Peace twice.

2 classes, 4 days a week, 4 hours.

I'm taking Algebra and Trig., 4 days a week for 3 hours a day, at my college for the second time. It's way too fast for what I'm used to, we cover 3 topics in a chapter a day, and tests are usually once a week. It doesn't help that my professor tries to get us, and himself, out early, so he rushes through the class, only doing 1 or 2 problems per section as examples. And we spend way too much time on homework, which is three assignments a night.
