Some people love 'em, some hate 'em. Either way, I can't believe we had no thread for the Doors. So here it is.

want me to add it to the list?

Haha, check the thread, just put the link in there.

I was going to make this one soon too haha... because of Andrew's lack of enthusiasm for the Doors being on the top lists for the '60s.
KatieKutthroat.
05/24/08, 09:59 AM
Exactly, this was made partly to piss off Andrew.

Haha. Waiting For The Sun is one of my favourite albums of all time, but I surprisingly never really have anything to say about it other than that.
KatieKutthroat.
05/24/08, 10:08 AM
I prefer the self-titled album over Waiting For the Sun. I think
The Doors > Waiting For the Sun > LA Woman > Morrison Hotel > Strange Days > the Soft Parade.
And I share a last name with Jim Morrison so I'm automatically cool. Just thought I'd throw that in there.

Waiting For The Sun > The Doors > the rest is the same as yours actually haha.

My dad saw the doors play in a club in the 60's. they were in the front row. Jim threw the mike-stand and it broke my aunt's nose. Before she went to the hospital, Jim felt really bad so he let them come back stage and hang out for a bit.

How is there not one of these yet? I love The Doors.
I love Strange Days more than most people on here it would seem.

That's awesome. Well, not the fact that he broke her nose, but the rest of it.
Eh, they're okay.
They are better than just "Eh." :-p

Their hits are all fine and good, but their album material is awfully pretentious. Jim Morrison was so drugged-up, he thought his words were incredibly important when they're really just nonsensical rambling.
CellarGhosts

YES!
thank you Chris #1, you just summed up what I couldn't quite put my finger on as to what I don't like about them.

You're welcome :-D
"Roadhouse Blues" and "Touch Me" are fantastic songs ... but they could have cut "The End" and "Riders on the Storm" by 8 or 9 minutes. Some of their longer songs just drag. I don't know if anyone has heard Morrison's poetry albums, but they are some of the worst crap in existence. He really liked to talk about nonsense.

Hahaha, I kind of want to hear those albums now just so I can chuckle at his pretentious nonsense.

Yeah, I can't disagree with this.

My friend's brother used to listen to his spoken word albums and they were ghastly. I don't know what they are called or how many exist ... but they are not good.
And just so everyone knows ... Creed has a cover version of "Riders on the Storm" I know you'd all love.
And Marvelous 3 covered "People are Strange" ... which doesn't even compare to Creed.

Haha, I just looked up some Jim Morrison solo poetry stuff:
Time to live
Time to lie
Time to laugh
Time to die
Take it easy baby
Take it as it comes
Don't move to fast if you want
your love to last
You've been movin' much to fast
I looked at you
You looked at me
I smiled at you
You smiled at me
And we're on our way
No, we can't turn back
Yeah, we're on our way
And we can't turn back
'Cause it's too late
Too late, too late
Too late, too late
And we're on our way
No, we can't turn back
Yeah we're on our way
And we can't turn back
I walked with you
You walked with me
I talked to you
You talked to me
And we're on our way
No, we can't turn back
Yeah, we're on our way
And we can't turn back
'Cause it's too late
Too late, too late
Too late, too late
And we're on our way
No we can't turn back
Yeah we're on our way
And we can't turn back
'Cause it's too late
Too late, too late
Too late, too late
I hope he didn't strain himself writing those. :-D

Easily one of the top ten greatest bands ever. Morrison's lyrical skills are great i don't care what anyone says. I could break down some of the lyrics of popular bands on AP have written and it would be laughable.
Chris Fallon
05/24/08, 06:04 PM
His popular work isn't bad at all ... it's the pretentiousness he got into once he started becoming a heavy drug user. Not all his lyrical work is stellar, a lot of it is rambling - but when he was on it, he was great. He just became an egocentric, drug-addled prick.

Haha Katie, I'm sorry. It's all in good fun like Chris #1 said.
Besides, Robbie Krieger was the true star of this band. regardless of my wariness of all the Jim Morrison/Doors praise, Robbie is definitely a talented guitarist.

I wish there was a good pouting smiley because this is a perfect time to use it.
Anyhow, Krieger was an excellent guitarist, I dont think he gets enough credit.

haha could be. I watched this documentary once about the, like, I suppose it was the history of guitars and rock/blues music, and Robbie was one of the guitarists they had on there, and he demonstrated how he would often have to fill in the bass lines himself (due to there not being a bassist in the Doors) all while he played the lead parts at the same time.

Garth! I just had the most vivid and powerful dream of my life! last night, Jim Morrison spoke to me.
He told me that the purpose of my life was to put on a concert!
