Jawbreaker was better, but whatever. still a solid band.
and yes, Perfecting Loneliness is better than Orange Rhyming Dictionary. contrary to popular belief.

It is. "Psalm" is such a terrific song. Blake's voice fits the tone/mood so well.

One of those bands no one would care about if this were a 'new' band.
I think thats untrue and I'm pretty sure I can remember threads in the past where you've said you were a fan of this band. I'll have to investigate.
Anyway, ORD > PL > FCN
ORD and PL are so damn good but Im still gonna say ORD is in fact better. Cmon, it has "Sweet Avenue"

This band gets love elsewhere just not this site. I prefer Jawbreaker for the record but Jets to Brazil are great too.

Haha, "Sweet Avenue" is indeed awesome. but Perfecting Loneliness just strikes more of a chord with me than ORD does.

haha so there's another thread already? maybe I had some sort of typo or something when I searched.
whatever though, this thread is better.
and nice sleuthing, Eric. ha.

Is he really saying that he doesn't like any certain band within that statement? Read it carefully.

I'm with ben on this one.
chris kilo was the other day too, but apparently since then he's gone through a JTB renaissance, no doubt inspired by that very conversation.

haha I remember that. it was probably poor wording on my part. I've always enjoyed JTB to a degree, but I listened through both ORD and PL not too long after that, (so yea I would say it was inspired by the convo) and decided I liked them more than I thought I did.

heard JTB for the first time over break; my aunt owned an album of their's. i didn't like it at all.
then last week Nathan Lint made me listen to a different one of their albums (i wish i could remember the names of each of these, but i'm too lazy to wiki them right now), and i love it.
i could definitely get into these guys.

I've yet to really listen to this band. I've heard a few songs which I thought were alright, but not enough to make me want to listen to a whole album.
Orange Rhyming Dictionary is Jawbreaker worthy, the following two...meh.

The album really does nothing for me...I really don't understand the appeal for it here. I've given it plenty of chances, it's not like I'm just auto writting it off. I mean, the first few songs are great, but the second half doesn't really stand out to me at all. I'm sure one day I'm going to listen to it and it will click, that tends to happen a lot to me. Agree that ORD is the best of the three though?

Yeah. For me, looks something like: ORD > PL > FCN

Orange Rhyming Dictionary is my favorite album from them but I've been listening to Perfecting Loneliness a lot more lately.
I just tried to listen to Perfecting Loneliness again. I just couldn't finish it. The album is just too damn long and there isn't enough variation to hold my attention. I got to Autumn Walker and just had to stop. I really wish I could like this album, but I just can't.

I agree. Such a good album. I really love Four Cornered Night also. I just don't get the hate for it

all three albums are good but only Orange Rhyming has the Jawbreaker edginess to it, which is why I prefer it. if you are more into softer indie the latter two will suit you best.
Yeah, true. I'm into Jawbreaker and a lot of softer indie pop stuff. So maybe that's why i love them all.
Definitely can't wait for The Thorns Of Life though. His voice on the two acoustic songs sounds great!

I haven't heard any updates on The Thorns of Life since November... do you have any news? have they recorded anything?

Not yet, but soon. Blake said they are going to self-release it.

Have you heard the two acoustic songs yet? They should be in the Jawbreaker thread i think.

cool, thanks.
a set they played at Gilman a few weeks back is on Soulseek so I'm going to grab that too.
We really should just have a combined Jawbreaker Jets to Brazil Thorns of Life Official thread.
cool, thanks.

yep, that's it
the two songs I have listened to actually aren't half-bad. I feared it might be boringly adult-indie but it doesn't appear that way. this could be pretty cool.

also it seems as if some of these are overtly political, something that was shied away from in Jawbreaker and Jets.
Yeah, i've noticed the edgier sound from the stuff i've heard. Blake has said that it's pretty much a mix of the two bands, plus something new.
Listening to the bootleg now, and the quality is pretty good!! You can hear the vocals fine, and nothing is distorted. Songs themselves sound amazing!!

They're both great albums, I've just always preferred Perfecting Loneliness for whatever reason. "Chinatown" would probably be my favorite from ORD (either that or "Sweet Avenue"), so agreed.

Yeah, I'm not claiming it's better, just that Orange Rhyming Dictionary is my preferred album. Both are fantastic.
