one of the best. a legend that could easily foot it during an era that bought us some of the greatest voices the world had to offer (gaye, mayfield, wonder, sly, brown, etc). green, rightfully renowned as soul music royalty with his voice so pure & rich in gospel. he has the ability to make every emotion believable to the listener. & his 2008 release, lay it down, is no exception. fans of his earlier work will quickly realize lay it down pays great homage to his defining work of the 70's, but without being a mere revision. it's fresh, pure, brilliant. the vocals smooth, the percussion solid & deep. it's simply genuine & gorgeous soul music in a time where a few reminders of how things are done wouldn’t hurt haha. whether you're long time fan of green's music or this is your first outing, lay it down is a must hear of '08

I love, love, love Al Green! One of my favorite voices. Haven't heard Lay It Down yet, however.

oh you need to my friend. i only picked it up last night & boy did it hit me, such a great album & has a few modern names in soul appear on it like anthony hamilton, john legend & the beautiful corinne bailey rae. ?uestlove from the roots is on the production team on this one too & probably why the percussion sounds soo damn good

I'm Still in Love with You is one of my favorite albums... need to check out the new album though. I have the bad habit of skipping out on new music made by older bands.

same, that whole era of green's music was phenomenal. that album + call me, let's stay together & al green gets next to you
many of us are guilty of that at some stage or another, that fear or assumption of it not living up to the hay-day. but lay it down really is a quality listen

"Love'll make ya do wrong....make ya do right.....HUUMMMmmmmmmmm-mm-m-mmm-mm"
One of the best intros I've ever heard to a song. On a different note (heh), I'm really glad to see Lay It Down debut at number 9. "Stay With Me" is so smooth, and that whole album is really refreshing.

Yeah, okay, I'm late to the game, but I just picked up a copy of Let's Stay Together a week or so ago and I'm in love. Great, great man.

Call Me is a summer rainy day staple (and we've had a lot of those around here lately). "Have You Been Making Out OK" is so good I can't even handle it.

He needs to do an album with The Roots. I completely mean that. His last album was a delight, I've sung it's praises since it's release, & more Roots members would only make it better.

Great musician. I say that he was going to play at a casino near my hometown. Sad that he's only remembered by older generations.
